Hi
I'm about to me my best friends birthing partner and would like any advice. We have been best friends since school, i.e. 26 years. I'm not a mum yet and am 37 and my best friend is the same age, so old mums for the first time! Any advice to make her comfortable etc would be welcome
Thanks

That's really lovely! Id say knowing her birth plan would be helpful, so you can encourage her re: pain relief and the things she wants to happen. Make sure you have snacks and drinks for yourself as well so you can keep your energy up.

Thanks for replying, snacks etc definitely sound like a plan!! I didn't think about myself! Wink

Maybe have a read about what doula's do. Also have a read up on birth skills, labour stages, have a look at birth info for dads because most stuff will be written for dads, check out different massage technique and ask if she is happy to try them out before.
Also talk to her in detail about her preferences so that if she is in transition you can help her stick with her intentions.

Also do a search for BRAIN decision making. It's a way to help make decisions before and during labour.
Supporting women in labour is a wonderful thing to do.
