Tomorrow I have an appointment with my consultant as I have been measuring big since 32 weeks, at 36 I was measuring 43... and tomorrow i'll be 38 weeks exactly. What is likely to happen???

Mw couldn't tell last time how I was presenting either. What is the likelyhood of being told all ok and to go home???

Have they done an extra scan yet? I was measuring 5 weeks ahead for ages (so not as much as you) and had a growth scan at 35 weeks. This was to see whether it was a big baby/too much fluid/whatever (in my case, big baby plus slightly too much fluid). They did that before I saw the consultant.

I would expect that they'd want to do a scan to see what they are dealing with before they make any decision. If you have high levels of amniotic fluid (polyhydramnios) then it will make a difference to some aspects of managing the birth.

If the baby is big then all the evidence is that inducing early does not make the odds of complications any better. Some consultants do still like to do it, though.

In my case (big baby, not engaged) the consultant said that she would not recommend induction, would schedule an elective c/s if I wanted but that trying for a spontaneous vaginal delivery, proceeding to elective c/s rather than induction if I got to 2 weeks overdue, would be what she would suggest. That's they way we went -- my waters broke early on 39+4 and I went into spontaneous labour, but DS wasn't getting any lower than 0 station even after an hour and a half of pushing so after considering ventouse they went for an emergency c/s late on 39+5.

No I haven't had any mention of a scan yet... just my mw said you are prepared for every eventuality- very vague!!!

Ahhhh I know i'm not going to sleep think about what might or might not happen and have to go to the appointment on my own too which doesn't help

pol26 i measured bigger all the way through my pregnancy 39 weeks at 30, so had growth scans and appointments with the consultant every week until delivery i had high levels of amniotic fluid and they also said i'd have a big baby 10lb or so being only 4 10" this was scary anyway things levelled off just in the last 2 weeks and my dd was born 12 days late after induction weighing only 7lb 11oz. i think the decision lies ultimatley with your consultant my consultant was very keen to let things go as natural as possible which suited me but lookin at what lemonaid has posted shows they can all be different, good luck

How did it go?

I hope the decision ultimately lies with you, but hope it all went OK.....keep us posted

Thank you for your support ladies...

Well went ok, a little bit of a waste of their time but at least we are all satisfied that the baby is well and doing ok.

I was measured again and still measuring 43 when now i'm 38 weeks, but slightly better as was measuring 43 @ 36 weeks so I haven't gotten any bigger!!!

Had a scan and all measurements seem fine, but on the highest centile for all bits and pieces. They have said he is around 8lbs now... God, don't let me go overdue...! He'll be a whopper.

Said I had been having mucus (sorry if tmi) nearly everyday in dribs and drabs and mw said she couldn't believe how hard I was and my uterus was contracting. I told her I had been like it for three weeks and keeping thinking today is the day but nothing happens. She made me a 41 weeks app but said she doubted I would need it- but i've heard that before from my other mw!!! Trying not to get my hopes up
