Please help - do doctors try to 'scare' you about having a second section- any good stories about a repeat cs?

I had a cs with my first baby 16 months ago - I'll be honest and say I couldn't have wished for it to go better. It took me 10 years to get to a position where I could even contemplate giving birth, so the fact that I had a section was fabulous for me.

I'm now pregnant again and had my first scan today and appointment with the consultant. He was very dismissive of my wish for a repeat section and told me that first sections are very easy to do but with a second section there is a risk of damaging my bladder and stomach as they may have moved since my first section Shock

I remained very firm but very polite that I wanted a section but he seemed to be quite irritated with me for not immediately saying ok I'll have a vbac.

I know there are risks, a section is major surgery.

I'm really looking for people who've had two sections to tell me about their experiences.

Do medical staff have to 'put you off' having a section?

Mine were actually really good when I stated I wanted a repeat section. My first was an EMCS due to failure to progress with complications so under a general. That was hard, I never saw him be born or heard him cry. It took a few days to bond with him as a result I think.

The second one was my choice, they said I could go to a VBAC clinic to discuss doing it naturally, I declined and they were fine about it. I'd heard stories of scars rupturing, my next door neighbour for one and I didn't want that. The second was elective and a really lovely experience. The consultant listened before the section when I asked if baby could be lifted so we could see the sex and he did just that, it was a really jovial atmosphere.

I'm 6 weeks pg with number 3 and I'll be having my final c-section. The overhang is def there for me after two but not very noticeable to anyone except me. Prob will be worse after the next one but I'd rather that than all the complications that come from a rupture.

It's such a personal decision as to whether to go for another but do not let them push you into anything, this is your body and therefore your choice. They cannot refuse you a repeat section.

Good luck. Xx

DS was an EMCS, this one is ELCS. The consultant saw I was certain and so did the consent forms there and then. I think I was 24 weeks or so? She did say if I wanted more children I should leave it two years or risk complications. Not sure what they are. Would it be from birth to birth or birth to conception for the two years?

I had an EMCS then an ELCS. When I requested a repeat section, my consultant just said. 'I think that's a perfectly reasonable request' and booked me in. I was expecting to have to argue my case for it.

In contrast to what others have said, my second section was actually quicker than my first - no idea why! I was told that my uterus was very thin where the scar was, and that it was a very good job I'd opted for a section. The recovery time was so much quicker with an elective section too. Not sure why, as it's the same operation and I hadn't been through labour with my first.
