I think this is a really silly question....

But I have to ask.... incase I'm really wrong.
My mum lives over an hour away so don't see her as often as I'd like, and I've got a quite a few weeks off before baby comes as using up holiday before I start maternity. So I'm planning to visit her a few times, for a few days at a time between me leaving work and baby coming. She lives equal distance away from my DHs work as our house so there's no extra chance he'll miss the birth etc if I visit my mum.
Somebody at work has told me that I can only give birth in the hospital I'm registered with, and that other hospitals won't take me if I go into labour elsewhere. I am assuming this is rubbish, and that as long as I have hospital bag, notes and car seat, I would be able to give birth at the hospital I'm local to or am I totally wrong? Surely they couldn't refuse me if I was in labour? I guess as it's only an hour away and labour usually takes years a while that I would have time to get to my hospital should I need to.

No they wouldn't turn you away. They'd check your notes to make sure you don't have any medical issues but that's it.

Its not a silly question,I cant imiaine any hospital turning a woman in labour away

Your right, it's highly unlikely that you won't have enough time to get to the hospital you've booked into.

With dc2 I was visiting my mum in Cornwall when I went into labour at 35 weeks. I lived in Birmingham! It was a bit of a shock but absolutely fine. All home 2 weeks later.

Best of luck.

You are right.

But, even your own hospital might turn you away for a few hours if you are not very progressed.

When I was in labour I was one of the last ladies they took. A couple after me they closed the labour wars as they were full. Other ladies were sent to the next local hospital about 30 mins away.

I think they only send you away if you're not far enough on in labour or of they're too full.

I don't think I was ever registered at a hospital, even though I gave birth there Confused that said, a colleague did go into labour away from home and it was totally fine.
