Induction...losing the will to live!

Nothing ever moves very fast in these hospital places does it....least of all my stubborn cervix at 40+12!

Came in yesterday at 3...propess pessary in at 7..DH sent home at 9. Nothing happened until mega unbearable 40 min continuous contraction which has now been explained to me as what the propess does initially. Twinges on and off all night and then removed this morning as too intense for baby as her heart rate too high.

It's now almost 4pm and no dilation. Prostin going in at some point And reassess in 6 hours, then maybe another one and then if no luck maybe a 24hr rest?!! Seriously! I think I'll go out of my mind!

Anyone else had contractions but no dilating? It's so disheartening and bloody painful!

My DS 7 years ago was 6 hours start to finish so finding this pretty tough going!

Wtf? That sounds ridiculously long. I would've thought they'd have you in for a c-section this evening given the induction methods aren't working and baby's heart rate!

Sounds annoying!

Are you managing to get any rest?

Word of warning - prostin gives you similar annoying and painful contractions (but you're not in labour)

Zara8 · 15/05/2014 15:33

I didn't dilate at all with prostin until my waters went. I was 1cm when I came in, and 1 cm hours after the second dose of prostin.

Then my waters broke and I went from 1 to 10 in an hour Shock

Zara8 · 15/05/2014 15:34

and I had loads of prostin pains before waters went.

But true labour only started when waters broke.

Tomkat79 · 15/05/2014 15:50

The dr hasn't said much...just almost split me in half with her less than careful examinations...and then I have to get the MW to explain as didn't understand!
Will def ask before they come near me with prostin about their reasons for inserting considering neither of us tolerated propess v well.

Sigh.

It took my body 36 hours of an induction to get the hint that labour was supposed to start followed by 30 minute labour and pushing.

I had constant contractions for last 24 hours and needed gas and air for that time but I was not dialating!

Tomkat79 · 15/05/2014 17:31

What did they end up doing mcbaby?

How are you going OP?

wispaxmas · 15/05/2014 19:37

I unfortunately know someone who had a failed induction. Was in hospital nearly 2 days with no dilation and it was impossible for them to attempt to break her waters, though they said her bishops score went from 2 to 6 in that time. She was sent home for 24 hours and when she went back into hospital her bishops score was back to 2! It took her another 2 days before she finally had her son at 17 days past due! Sometimes babies just aren't ready..

Sorry, probably not the story you wanted to hear. It does happen, though.

Zara8 · 15/05/2014 19:40

You poor friend wispa! I would've been raging if they sent me home to wait! I probably would have walked down to theatre and waited outside lol.

Tomkat79 · 15/05/2014 20:04

Just waiting on the dr to come and reassess to see if I've made any progress. Altho contracting it's all in my back so not v hopeful.
Have just had the nicest bath of my life tho and really helped ease the pain.
Ur poor friend wispa, it's so disheartening. It's funny how some babies as you say just aren't ready to be born!
Am praying for just a few cm's! X

Hopefully you're quite a few cm further along! If they can break your waters that can really get things going!

Tomkat79 · 15/05/2014 22:49

Apparently cervix is now closed! Just had the most uncomfortable examination known to man but a dr with huge hands....I think he's placed the last pessary of the day near my kidneys!!!

We're your dates changed when you had your scans?

Mine were put forward a week which is why I think me being induced with three lots of gel over 48 hour didn't work, because I just wasn't ready.

I ended up with a c section which was a very positive experience actually

Good luck to you x

Tomkat79 · 16/05/2014 04:14

That's exactly what happened to us tranquility!

We went along with this induction though as cant be exactly sure of ovulation / conception date as cycle was all messed up following MC.

Think this is heading for a section as 3rd pessary despite all that pain had come to nothing in almost 6 hours. I'm lying here now dreading the thought of another painful examination more that I am a contraction or even her head crowning, should we get that far.

They talked about a c section after 36 hours due to such little progress and as I was exhausted as I had been awake for 50 hours I agreed to have an epidural in preparation and to get some rest as there were 3 emergency c sections ahead of me .... Then my body took over and half an hour later I had a baby!

Make sure to request Gas and air for any more internals mine were so uncomfortable in the end was agony and my cervix was v swollen.

Tomkat79 · 16/05/2014 11:16

It would seem that my cervix is very scarred after a colposcopy 5 years ago and had no chance of softening with pessaries and maybe would have run into trouble naturally...so just waiting for a section. At least we know and will have our baby later! Thanks guys xx

Glad you're having a section. Poor you OPgoing through all the pessaries etc for nowt!!!

On the plus side you are going to meet your baby soon!

Tranquilitybaby · 16/05/2014 13:13

I thought that might be the case. Glad you're having your section today. Thinking of you xxx
