How much notice did you get for an ELCS (particularly late breech diagnosis)?

Hello. I'm 39 weeks pregnant tomorrow and pretty sure my baby is breech. I have a presentation scan on Wednesday and was wondering how quickly I was likely to be scheduled in for a C section. DS was breech but it was picked up at 36 weeks so I had about 2 weeks notice that it was going to happen (I had the section at exactly 39 weeks).

I know it will depend to some extent on how busy they are but was wondering how quickly other people in the same situation had been booked in. Thanks!

Probably ASAP if they are breech. As you know they do C sections at 39 weeks as a balance of risks.

For reassurance though anything under 24 hours is considered an "emergency" situation, which they usually like to avoid, but it depends what the scan finds (IE if it shows baby is breech but your about to go into labour) it could be straight away.

It is really difficult to tell accurately until they give you the scan. If you are worried before then at all I would ring the midwife or hospital who have arranged your scan to get your questions answered as they will know best as to what action each outcome would bring. (as in they will be the best people to give you a anything from x to y answer)

I had ten days notice, and the section was done when I was 39+2. They booked it immediately after they'd done the scan. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should phone up - I'm going to try and call on Tuesday anyway to see if they have any cancellations for scan appointments. It's a pretty busy hospital but I guess I won't be planning anything for next weekend. I also need to sort out childcare for DS so a bit of notice would be helpful (though as I was planning for a VBAC up until now it will still probably be more notice than I would have had otherwise!).

2 and a half days. Had a scan, results of which meant that DS2 needed to be born as soon as was convenient, rather than in an actual emergency. Was given a choice of the following day (the scan was at 4pm on a monday), the day after that or the Thursday (they didn't want to wait till friday as DS2 was destined for NiCU).
