Hi ladies I've got mild preeclampisa already wrote a thread on this in pregnancy section. I'm over initial shock of having to have an induction now.

I'm being inducted Saturday. But the doctor said I need to ring the labour ward at 3 on Saturday what will happen then will I be told to come straight to hospital?

Once I'm there will the start the induction the pressary tablet straight away.

I will feel a bit more in control if I know these little things.

Hi there, firstly don't worry about induction. There is every chance it will run smoothly as did mine. I presume you Hane to phone to make sure they have space for you? You may not be a priority induction if others take up space etc. That's
What I would think anyway.
Also, I went straight on drip as I had small water break the night I was due for pessary so I waited to see of natural labour came, it didn't. And within a few hours I got the strong contractions, I did end up with an epidural and I really thought that was great. Labour was only 5 hrs so for first baby that's good by all accounts. I was told with pessary that they do that, wait 6 hours or something like that and do another, wait again and them they would likely offer the drip of no signs of labour.
You will be fine, you can't control labour so forget that notion and just go with the flow, it really will be ok. You can also ring and speak to midwife or get them to explain it all step by step. Best of luck x

I had the full induction experience!! Hopefully it'll happen much faster for you than it did for me, but here's the full process:

  • Pessary inserted and left for 24 hours. Internal exams to check progress every so often.
  • Then prostaglandin gel after the 24 hours.
  • More gel 6 hours later
  • Third dose 6 hours after that
  • Then waters broken by a doctor
  • Put on drip at that point (14 hour labour).

Some people go into labour just with the Pessary. Others like me need everything to get us going! Just be aware that the whole process can take up to 4 days, and you'll be in hospital the whole time (but you can walk around etc).

Good luck!

First induction - DC1 - Pessary inserted around 6 pm, period type pains 1am/2am, bearable pain until 6am when I phoned DH to come in, 7am I was 7 cm and DS was born just after 10am after a few whiffs of gas and air. Needed a bit of help with forceps, but didn't bother me at all by that point!

Second induction - DC2 - Pessary inserted just after 10 am, serious contractions by 10.30 am and she arrived before 11.30 am.

It was fine on both occasions - on the basis that labour makes your eyes water! - good luck for tomorrow.
