He won't "let" you have a home birth? It's not him who has that choice to make.

Would suggest you take him along to see the midwife with you next time you go so that you can all discuss your options together. Maybe if he hears from the horse's mouth that it would be safe, he would change his mind. He might also be concerned about what would happen if you needed hospital intervention, and she can tell you about this as well.

But really the final decision isn't his, it has to be yours. And if you decide not to go with a home birth because of his concerns, the decision has to be at the end of a very long and very involved discussion not just because he says no.

It's not up to him, quite agree. QWhat's he worried about? There was another thread ages ago with partner saying same thing, hang on

WideWebWitch · 22/08/2006 19:38

don't know if this link will work

Mum2FunkyDude · 22/08/2006 19:38

Maybe he is scared of the unknown, it will really suck for you if he can't support you for a home birth. I would also take him to the mw and put him at ease about it.

my situation is slightly complicated, i had my son only 6 months ago and had an emergency c-section. so he is worried my scar will "rupture" or that i will have to have another emergency.

That does alter things a little I guess....

Mum2FunkyDude · 22/08/2006 19:49

Oh, I had am emergency C-section and was told by the consultant to wait 2 years before falling pregnant again, to allow the scar on the womb to heal properly. They also said there could be complications i.e. placenta attaching to scar tissue etc. I suppose if your consultant is happy with your condition there shouldn't be a problem should there?

TuttiFrutti · 22/08/2006 20:31

Natty, I suppose it depends a bit how far away you are from the hospital and how quickly you could get there if you had to?

Hi,

Get him to look at Angela Horn's website with you. It is THE best resource around for homebirth research. She doesn't just print the research either but comments on it too - so if a piece of research has been done badly she'll say "this study wasn't brilliant because of x, yor z..."

Her website is here

Hope it helps

aragon · 22/08/2006 20:36

She also has a whole section on birth after a caesarean section

NattyandThomas · 22/08/2006 21:33

thank you that is really helpful! did you know that a rupture is less than 0.5%? i didnt and am much less worried now!
