Throwing up before first stage

Hi all I'm 36+ 3 today. MW thinks baby will be early as has been so deeply engaged for so long.

Have had on off contractions (I think) - tightenings since Fri eve, including stabby cervix pains. They've eased off most of today but I've just thrown up. I'm not a sicky person. Haven't thrown up for over a year or more (no morning sickness that resulted in actual vomit). Any ideas what could have caused this today. I feel very hot and tired with achy tummy and a headache. I know it could be a bug but I've been very careful about who I've socialised with recently and generally check people are "germ free". Today I've eaten hot cross bun, cereal, Pringles, mashed pot, cheese and cake and a can of coke. Nothing dodge at all that I would react to!

Thanks in advance -Just interested to know if labour ever begins with vomiting as most things I've read imply Active stage is when you start chucking up...

I would definitely speak to your midwife / GP as soon as possible. It might be nothing but in my experience (2 labours) and from what other people have told me, your combination of symptoms are not what early labour should be like.

I threw up most of the way through, but that's my body's normal response to pain (I also throw up for periods pains). Give your mw a ring and get checked over if you haven't already.

I don't think you are in labour.

Or if you are, the vom was incidental, and not as a result of...

I am loving your diet, by the way Grin I wish I was pg.

It sounds as though you've just picked up a bug. It should be over and done with by the time you give birth. Don't ever believe a midwife that tells you you are bound to go into labour early. They are invariably wrong and just telling you what you want to hear Wink

I didn't chuck up until I'd been in established labour for ten hours.

Good luck!

I started out by vomiting both times but I did vomit a couple of times in my last week of pregnancy anyway so it didn't necessarily mean labour was immediately imminent. The real thing was preceded by a proper 'clear out' of vomiting and diarrhoea, following which I couldn't keep down any solids. However, I had no nausea - it was simply like my body was too busy to digest anything so got rid of it all.

Good luck and I hope you feel better/have a lovely baby soon :)

Thanks all. Actually really not ready so hoping this isn't it! MW threw me into a total panic saying baby might come early - wasn't what I wanted to hear quite yet! Only just stopped work! Got lots of plans for next few weeks. Contractions (or BH or whatever they were) have stopped again as has D&V. Perhaps it was a fluke, or perhaps my naughty food day (usually eat 3 square meals with DH but he was out all day with work so I indulged)!

I have to say I threw up throughout my labour. Directly my labour started I had my head in a bucket. My finale was an exorcist style projectile vomit over the entire delivery team and I'm afraid I wasn't sorry one bit as my labour had been very painful due to being put on the contraction enhancing drip.

So it was normal for me.

ClearlyMoo · 18/04/2014 09:49

Well it's been three days and even the BH stopped and everything else returned to normal so probably just all the naughty food I ate that day. Panic over! Thanks those that did reply!!
