Basically the above and i'm after some advice from anyone who has suffered from an awful dose of them? I had my dd 6 days ago now, and am still suffering :( i've managed to get some cream on prescription from my GP, but I'm not sure how long I should wait for it to start taking affect? it feels better, but still feels like my arse is going to fall out Envy Blush

You'd be better off with suppositories than cream, the chemist should have anusol which I found effective. If you're really suffering your GP can prescribe a steroid version.
Keep well hydrated and eat fruit to keep everything soft!
Hope you feel better soon

i had to drink loads of prune juice to ensure i didn't have to strain / push on them at all, only then did they clear up 3-4 weeks pp!!!

2 years and counting for me.

sammyleh · 09/04/2014 16:20

yep, nearly 2 yrs for me. No cream worked, no suppositories worked and my doctor also tried to put me forward for surgery to have it removed.... which the board refused. Someone remind me exactly why I pay national insurance again?

MamaPingu · 09/04/2014 16:26

I finally got rid of mine at 4 months with no cream or anything as I was too embarrassed and anything bum related makes me cringe a bit!!

I just made sure I never strained and it was so so painful on and off for what felt like forever.

Now I only get pains if I've been eating a bad diet and get a bit bunged up Blush

It feels like they'll never go away doesn't it? I'm always scared of getting them again!!

You have my sympathies OP. I was in tears over my post childbirth piles. I honestly think they were more painful than the birth itself ....

I did so many things to try and relieve them (when over the counter remedies failed) that I'm not entirely sure what did the trick - but I do think that a twice daily soak in epsom salts - combined with drinking gallons of water - and a daily sachet of fybogel - really helped.

Have some Thanks. Just thinking about them again is making me wince ....

Evil evil piles. Sympathies.

ViviDeBeauvoir · 12/04/2014 09:07

I'm a year down the line after DC3 and I've had no reoccurrence since about 3 months post natal. My piles were horrendous and even just sitting down was painful. I agree with the pp who said they were worse than the birth itself!
I suffered from terrible constipation after giving birth which just made them worse.

I used anusol ointment (was better than the cream) and had lactulose to help with the constipation initially and once that had worked I drank prune juice every day to keep things regular. Be careful not to have too much though as diarrhoea can aggravate them as well.

Congratulations on the birth of your DD! :)

I suffered horribly as also had fissures and tearing- I was in agony for about 6 months. Don't strain, lots of water and fruit/fibre.

Would define recommend supositories over cream too x

Total sympathy - had a rotten time with piles after childbirth. Dulcoease will help soften your poo and make going to the loo slightly more comfortable. Anusol or Preparation H will both do the trick but it takes a week or two...
