Swelling above c section incision

Well, I had my section 2 weeks ago now, and everything is healing up well. But I do have swelling above the incision, which I don't remember this the first time round. My stomach is literally down to how it was before becoming pregnant but am worried this swelling won't go down. I don't think it's an infection because I feel fine, it's not hot to the touch or red. Looks like if your wearing something tight and you get a little bulge lol!

Congratulations on your new arrival Smile

It could just be things taking a bit longer to settle this time round (my sister found this albeit after two vaginal births).

Can you ring a midwife/postnatal ward just to check and get some reassurance?

I had exactly the same thing after my ELCS almost 2 years ago. It started to slowly go after about 6w and I would day it was gone sometime between 12-16w. It's fluid and don't forget the trauma the area has sustained.

May I ask how your 2nd section went? We are contemplating another dc, which would mean a second section for me.

Thank you pumpkinpie, I am seeing the midwife tomorrow so will be getting her to have a look at it. I do keep telling myself it's major surgery after all!

Molotov, this was my second after almost 13 years! So felt like my first all over again! I did a lot of panicking for weeks leading up to it, but i don't know why because it was a breeze! Even though it was elective, it was about 30 minutes from opening to stitching so very quick! Couldn't fault anything at all! And so relaxed aswell. I have to give a mention to broomfield hospital in chelmsford as they are so so busy, but always have a smile on their faces! I would say def go for a second dc!

Thanks for your feedback Gem Smile

It would be a 3rd child we would try for: we have 2 dds aged 5 and almost 2yo. I had an assisted VB with dd1 and ELCS for dd2. Any more would be ELCS, so 3rd baby but 2nd CS Smile

yes I had that lump too. it is nearly gone now - I just checked for the first time since about 4 weeks so I don't know how long it took to go. dd2 is 7months old..

for those interested it was my second section in 17 months and was a non emergency emcs and went a million times better than the first. I was driving in 4 weeks and carrying both babies

No problem Molotov :)

It's weird because it's completely flat when I lie down so I'm thinking fluid build up or something! I went out driving for the first time yesterday taking little one out. I forgot how much of a mission it was getting ready going out lol! Thank god my eldest is off on Easter holidays helping lol! Although I will have to make the most of that!!!

Yes, I think it might be fluid build-up, too - I used to find that it'd 'puff out' again after a long day, or if I'd been standing too long for a few months after the birth.

I still have slight swelling around the area when af is due, which makes me feel quitw confident that it was/is a fluid thing.

Oh, and enjoy the Easter holiday!! Smile
