What does it mean if your waters break and the first bit has blood in it !?!

I hope someone is up and can help....I know green and brown waters is a sign of concern...I don't remember them saying anything about starting off red water, now it is still going but clear.

And how soon will I go into labour now !?!

Any news yet? I joined the previous thread yesterday and I am all excited for you babieseverywhere! Hope it all went well - checkd the announcement section no news! If you are still in that birthing pool you will look like a 90 year old by now. I really hope everything went well for you lol xx

BudaBabe · 17/08/2006 21:27

No news???

mears · 17/08/2006 21:55

I would reckon we won't hear from BabiesEverywhere till well into tomorrow. Labours that start with the waters breaking tend to take a while to get going. Hope all is going well.

pupuce · 17/08/2006 22:01

Hi Mears... I agree

magnolia1 · 17/08/2006 22:08

Omg not true in my case, I deliver within minutes of my waters breaking

pupuce · 17/08/2006 22:12

Magnolia - we mean as she was not contracting stronlgly for hours after the waters had broken...

biglips · 17/08/2006 22:15

GOOD LUCK !!!! XXXXXX

magnolia1 · 17/08/2006 22:16

Oh I see.

GeorginaA · 17/08/2006 23:11

Bah.... she has 50 minutes left for me to win my wine as well ...

Some people are just so inconsiderate of the timing of their babies

BabiesEverywhere · 17/08/2006 23:23

Sorry GA, better luck next time.

Still not got as far as the pool and no baby yet, contractions still only 10 minutes apart...so I have just been to hospital for a strep B swab in case baby doesn't come in the next three days.

Hopeing contractions will get stronger soon

That can be a good thing... your body is building loads of endorphins.... get some rest (if you can... take paracetmaols if it helps)... it will start soon enough especially if it hasn't stopped !

Good luck

GeorginaA · 17/08/2006 23:31

CheesyFeet · 18/08/2006 09:03

No news yet...

I am on tenterhooks here.

CheesyFeet · 18/08/2006 11:01

I have just spoken to BE's dh - the contractions have stopped and as her waters have broken she has been booked in for an induction at 4.00 tomorrow if they don't start up again.

Lots and lots of vibes for her please - she is terrified of hospitals following bad experiences as a child and she is desperate for a home birth.

VVVVVVVVViiiiiiiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeeeessssssssss

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

GeorginaA · 18/08/2006 11:05

Oh no, poor thing. The stress doesn't help much either.

Still, being booked for an induction with my first was what triggered my contractions, I'm sure and I didn't end up using the appointment - fingers crossed!

Toady · 18/08/2006 11:27

She should be ok for up to 4 days according to NICE guidlines, here is an extract or I have put the full link below.

"If your waters break before labour starts
Sometimes a woman?s waters break before labour starts. This happens in about one in
twenty pregnancies and is known as prelabour rupture of the membranes (or PROM). When
this happens, about nine out of ten women will go into labour naturally within twenty-four
hours. The longer the time between PROM and the birth of the baby the higher the risk of
infection to you or your baby.
If you are more than 37 weeks pregnant and your waters have broken but you have not gone
into labour you should be offered the choice of either:
?? Induction of labour
OR
?? A ?wait and see approach? to see if labour will start naturally As a wait and see approach carries a slight risk of infection, you will need to: ?? check your temperature twice a day ?? check for changes in the colour or odour of your amniotic fluid (?waters?) ?? check for any other signs of fever (e.g. shivers, flushing) If you have not gone into labour after, at most, four days induction is strongly recommended.
If your waters break before you go into labour, your chances of having a caesarean section
will not be increased by choosing either induction or ?wait and see?.
How is labour induced (started)?
There are a variety of methods that can be used to induce labour. You may be offered one or
all of the methods described below depending on your individual circumstances.
Membrane sweeping
This has been shown to increase the chances of labour starting naturally within the next 48
hours and can reduce the need for other methods of induction of labour.
Membrane sweeping involves your midwife or doctor placing a finger just inside your cervix
and making a circular, sweeping movement to separate the membranes from the cervix. It
can be carried out at home, at an outpatient appointment or in hospital.

Full information on induction is here

My sisters waters broken and there was blood in them, she was preg with twins and had a cs booked already but obviously the babies had other ideas about there time and entry to the world. They were both ok but she went into hosp and had an emergency section.

pol26 · 24/08/2006 22:21
