had a MW appointment today, (I'm 32 weeks)

After having DFM last week I was scanned at local hospital, to find baby in breech - even though 3 midwives said different when feeling my tummy.

My baby has got one foot up next to her face, the other down, like she's kneeling on it.
Her foot thats down is actually resting over cervix, and her head is very uncomfortable, poking around under my right ribs.

I was planning on having her at home, thought it would be lovely - and nothing really scares me about the labour part, the pain etc - Im just scared of the unknown really? Does that make sence, I constantly have the What If's ...

However if she is still breech at my next MW appt, at 34+3 weeks - I will be offered a scan, at 36 weeks, if she is breech then, I will be offered an elective CS at 38 weeks, and I can't help thinking that this would be more suitable for me?

Is it normal to feel like this? Because I know then what exactly to expect, I can prepare myself...

Any one been in similar experience? I know she still may turn - don't know if I want her to though?

Help?

(Hope that this answer makes sense after I find out what DFM means!)

Emzickle, it's perfectly normal to have the what ifs, I feel sure that all mum's to be do that.

It never occured to me to have/attempt a homebirth with ds1. Partly to do with my parents having been nurses, I think I thought of hospital as the right place to do that sort of thing! But if you continue to opt for a homebirth but then find on the day that you can't cope or want to go to hospital for some other reason, then that's OK too. As it happens, I had an em c/s with ds, but it wasn't such an emergency that we wouldn't have had time to get to the hospital from home... But really, I think your best chance of a straightforward birth is likely to be at home.

In the meantime, are you getting advice about how to turn the baby - I thought (in my ignorance?) that this was something that was normally attempted by MW or consultant, rather than just waiting to see?

oh emzickle, that sounds scary - is she alright? Take it scan showed she is OK - albeit a bit of a contortionist by the sounds of it!

CrocodileKate · 16/08/2006 18:21

There is still time for the baby to turn. Mine didn't turn until 37 weeks, I then went on to have a home birth.
Why do you think that the CS will be more suitable?

estobi1 · 16/08/2006 18:21

I don't think anyone knows what to expect going into this kind of situation. I wouldn't try to make a decision right now but wait until your next scan - your little one may have turned mine did at the last minute- I know the idea of a home birth sounds nice but your combined safety is everything - good luck!

emzickle · 16/08/2006 18:22

she's fine, the consultant I saw said she prob wasn't moving much as she's probably stuck! Which means they wouldn't try to turn her, as she'd only get distressed, because she can't really bend much more, but she's still wiggly, I get head butted and I get sharp kicking sensations down below, which I can only assume is her wriggling around on my cervix bit...

Spend plenty of time on your knees, leaning forward onto your forearms for turning Lo. Bum up in the air.

emzickle · 16/08/2006 18:23

CrocKate - I sort of thought that a CS would be more "controllable" because I'd be able to prepare myself for it.

emzickle - I'm having an elective c/s in October which I'd much rather not have! I have absolutely no idea how to prepare for it - and I've had one (well, emergency c/s) before. I'm not frightened as such, more apprehensive - there's no time to fret before an em c/s, but this is major surgery you know (blah blah) - I think I'm afraid that I will be afraid on the day - do hope I'm not putting ideas in your head now!

Can't even view the c/s which Pupuce has found us - though not sure it's such a good idea shortly before actually having a c/s!

There is loads of stuff you can do to get your baby to turn before the birth - although tbh you do have loads of time yet! If you google turning breach babies you will get loads of ideas. Did your midwife not offer any advice about this

jamiesam · 16/08/2006 21:41

Emzickle - more optimal foetal positioning, which isn't nec. designed for the position your baby is in but it's worth a try - when you sit down on settee to watch telly, make sure your hips are above your knees - use cushions to raise your self up if nec. Do similar (within reason! praps just one small cushion) if you drive a lot too. Do try to sleep on lhs rather than rhs. I did all of this when pg with ds2 as ds1 had been back to back.
