Had quite a big PPH with first baby who is now 17 months. 22 weeks preg with second now and it's hitting me that I'll be giving birth again in around 4 months. Any positive stories welcome as I know I am at a higher risk as it happened before...

I had a pph first time around. I was pushing for two hours my iron levels were too low and I had a third degree tear.

Second time I took spatone (2 sachets a day) and birth was a breeze. Minimal blood loss, I felt much better afterwards. So now I'm a firm believer that if I ever got pregnant again I need to boost my iron intake but not via the traditional iron tablets as they were crap.

Spatone is sachets of iron-rich water. I've taken it a few times when I was borderline anaemic, I don't tolerate iron tablets very well. Health food shops stock it, or buy online.

Isitme, recovery was quick. The pain was managed with paracetamol and I was out of the house with dh, dd and ds by day 4. Obviously I couldn't lift dd or ds when he was in his car seat but I can't tell you how much better I felt this time round. I had some midwives passing comment about my choice of delivery but I'm so pleased I had a c section as the bleeding was controlled very quickly and it was much less traumatic than it happening in the delivery room. 16 weeks on the scar looks like a small scratch!

I can't believe that advice varies so much. Someone above saying they were 11 days over and my consultant saying going overdue was not an option. I'm thankful I had the choice.

Hello all

I am a semi positive story.

Bad pph with dd1, kept passing out, hospital were pretty negligent and only have me blood transfusions (2 pints) 3 days after birth by which time I was in a bad way. All very traumatic.

With dd2 also had pph during third stage. I had a Canuck in my arm the minute I arrived at the hospital, within seconds of dd2 being born I had the whole dr team in the delivery room, was put on lots of different drips and bottom line was I was then able to go home 12 hours after the birth. So although I did have a second pph it was delay with so muh better because they knew my history and all was v well.

Now 13 weeks pregnant with my third, am high risk and seeing a consultant next week about risks of pph and reasons for it etc. I am pretty nervous about it, but the wonderful treatment second time round makes me a big more confident .

Glad things were better the second time round Girlsville. Sounds like it was well managed. Hope the meeting with consultant goes well and you get to discuss managing this birth. Let us know what you are recommended. Seems to be that a managed third stage is recommended and having a cannula in early on.
