9 hours since I had sweep, how long does it take to bring on full labour?

TuttiFrutti · 16/08/2006 14:32

It just depends trix, and it might not bring on labour at all. I think they only work in about 50% of cases.

No, it did not work, had some pains that I thought could be promising but they stopped after a bath and now nothing. Two days overdue and really fed up now.

My sympathies. I've been there.

I had my 1st sweep on Monday 40+4, Just had a 2nd sweep this morning at 41 wks, I'm now booked in to be induced on Sunday where I'll be 10 days overdue.

I'm due to have a sweep tomorrow. From what people say, it seems it might work or it might not, especially if it's my first child. How long should I wait to ask to be induced if it doesn't work? I'm 41 weeks.

Olihan · 17/08/2006 14:38

I had 5 sweeps in total, none of them did anything and I was induced at 12 days overdue. (this was with baby #2) Personally, I didn't find them painful, they were a bit uncomfortable but nothing worse than an ordinary internal. I didn't have a speculum put in either, so I guess it depends on the person doing it.

The stat I was quoted was 50% of women go into labour within 24 hours of the sweep being done.

d1155, it depends on your hospital's policy when they'll induce you. Mine says 12 days over, some only give you 10, others longer. You don't have to be induced though, you can ask to be monitored and wait to go into labour naturally, but ime, mw's aren't too keen on letting you go more than 2 1/2 weeks over.

I had a sweep on Monday (41 weeks) and it hasn't worked for me so I am now waiting to be induced on Saturday at 12 days overdue. My MW said it works on 1 out of 7 women.

I had a sweep with my last child-3 years ago, as i was overdue.
I had a male consultant who did mine and it felt like he put his whole hand in!!!!!
Yes it was very uncomfortable, but 48 hours later i went into labour (a day before i was due to be induced!!!).
She was born fairly quickly weighing 9lb 5oz!!!
