I've been given a date for induction so why do I feel like a failure?

I know I am being ridiculous but right now I feel sooooo disappointed, and I can't help thinking my body has let me down. This is my 3rd and I believed like the other two this baby would either be bang on time or a week early.

I'm also very nervous of being induced and being at the hospital for so long as both my previous labours were.

If it's any help, I had an induction booked for DS2 which made me feel sad after being induced with DS1 and having an awful and long labour.
I went in labour naturally the day I'd spken to the MW and DS2 was born within 2 hours of having my first contraction.
There is still time.
Good luck

i can understand how you feel, I was induced last time and i'm praying I won't be this time. You never know you might go into labour before. Best of luck

Ive had 2 inductions and so much prefer them. I can plan around it and know what to expect. I had short labours of 2 hours and 4 hours.

Have never gone into labour naturally and would be so scared of doing so! I remember with DS2 crossing my fingers for another induction.

i loved being induced... no rushing to hospital, medical help from the start, access to pain relief straight away...you havent failed hun, just your baby is all warm and snug inside!

i really liked my induction, it was pretty full-on pain-wise but it was short (7 and a half hours altogether and it wasn't sore immediately) and the midwife was lovely and made sure i made good use of the bouncy ball and got to stay moving around. good luck firefox.

Both mine were induced, and neither were bad deliveries. The second only lasted an hour and a quarter!

You are certainly no failure!!!

Good luck.

I was almost induced with DS1 but went for 2 sessions of reflexology (over 2 days) which I am certain started my labour.

I got to hospital for the induction, they put a montior on me and I was already in labour.

It may be worth a try and can't do any harm

Good luck

Second what fairyjay you're not a failure. Both mine were induced and both were great deliveries. Just don't worry about it, you never know baby may still come without any help.

You are certaninly not a faliure, your bodys amazing to carry your little one for 9 months!

I had an induction with DS and am hoping to have it done again but mines for medical reasons.

You may go into labour naturally anyway, but whatever happens your going to produce a gorgeous little baby

misdee · 06/08/2006 17:11

had two inductions and one natural. first induction wasnt too good(dd1), but the 2nd (dd3) was just perfect. i got there and was 4cm dilated already, so they broke my waters, said they'd give me just over an hour to see if contractions started on their own, or they would set up the drip. the drip wasnt needed as was having contractions within 30mins or so. dd3 arrived in 2.5hour sof my waters being broken IIRc.

I was booked in to be induced but went into labour a few days before-you still have time for things to happen
Even if you do get induced you are not a failure, you have carried this baby for 9 months and done everything needed x x

If you dont mind me asking why are you being induced, how overdue are you. Remember you are not overdue until you go over 42 weeks.

Iklboo · 07/08/2006 10:12

I was booked in for an induction on my due date. I was already having mild contractions when I got there, which surprised the staff. Things slowed down and they popped some gel in 'just in case'. Increased contractions overnight and DS was born 5 hours after going through to the birthing suite (he's my first - I reckon I was in labour about 9 hours overall)

You can refuse an induction, of course. Is there a specific problem with the placenta or something that they are worried about or is it just a "routine" induction?
