BOth my boys were induced, but for different reasons and were quite different experiences.
DS1 - went 2 weeks over, I went in on the Sunday night, had the first pessary at around 9:30pm. Cervix was tight as anything.
Next pessary around 8:30am; periodic checking, had a sweep (not great!) and then another pessary at around 3:30. Unusual to have 3, I believe - but it worked for me as things started to kick off more after that one, with more period-pain contractions. I'd been completely unhungry all day, and after eating some lunch, was sick - no one had warned me that contractions could bring on sickness!
Anyway. Progress was slow, I reached 2 whole cm dilated but by then was crawling round my bed (I don't take well to period pains) and begged to be taken up to labour ward, which I was at around 9:30pm. Was wheelchaired everywhere by then as just couldn't stand up, let alone walk. Went to the loo about 5 times (my usual thing with period pains is to go to the loo as somehow the pushing motion helps with the pains) - so cleared my bowels out completely, AND my waters broke down the loo - big whoosh! and splash, I worried that the baby had come out too! (No such luck)
By 11:30pm, dilation was back to 1cm, I was begging for some pain relief but not an epidural (bad back issues) so they gave me pethidine, which did, IMO, SFA. Also an anti-emetic to stop me being sick (which worked!)
They said, because they were busy, that they'd give me another 4h and then check and if I hadn't progressed by then, I'd get the drip.
Didn't need it - stage 2 started around 1:30am and by 2:03am, DS1 was born, nearly without a MW as I sent DH to fetch one when I felt DS1 crowning and he was born next push.
DS2 - far more complex but mostly not relevant because I had various other things going on - done at 39w, I had polyhydramnios, DS2 was unstable oblique transverse lie (diagonal, with his head up under my ribs, but kept moving around) so needed far more intervention which, as I say, wouldn't be relevant to you. :)
