Gift ideas for after csection?

My sil has just had an emergency csection and I want to send her a nice care package along with something for the baby (we don't live nearby and won't be able to visit for a few weeks).

Guessing she is going to be quite uncomfortable and sore for a while. If you had a csection what would you have liked to receive?

Chocolate!

I had an elective c-section last week and to be honest it makes no difference how you give birth you are still shattered afterwards (had vb with DC1).

So anything you know she likes she will appreciate the thought. If you are buying clothes for baby try to make sure they dont have buttons on the back as they are really fiddly to do up and uncomfortable for newborna who spend majority of the time on their back in the early days.

Nice handcream is always good as you wash your hands a lot so they dry out. Maybe a posh little antibac gel (that smells nice) to put in her change bag.

Food delivery would be awesome? Cooking, or mostly deciding what to have for dinner, was not something I was interested in doing. I've had 2 c-sections and to be honest, recovery was quite easy. I was up and around quite quickly after, driving around about 10 days later. I wasn't running but able to move around at a comfortable pace.

I would second a food delivery! Get all the basics like bread, milk, tea, coffee & biscuits plus a few ready meals.

Waitrose do great delivery service as you can pick time slots, they are v reliable! Grin

A pick-up stick thing. When your abdominal muscles have been sliced through, it's an absolute bugger to try and get stuff off the floor when you drop it.

Plus all the other nice stuff mentioned.

(If I ever have another dc, it'll be an elcs and I'll be buying a picker-up stick before the event to keep at home).

I agree re food delivery. If you can't make it for a while you can order amazing ready meals from here.

Don't assume that she's suddenly disabled. It used to drive me nuts that people assumed a terrible thing had happened to me and started screeching if I got the hoover out.

Headlikeafuckingorange · 28/01/2014 19:42

Good point Highlander! Certainly don't want to make her feel like that.

After I had my dd, sil came to visit armed with a cool box full of meals she had made for the freezer and some treaty puddings. Was the best thing ever! Online delivery would be a good option. Definitely going to get some nice hand cream too.

I had an elcs and felt pretty crap and immobile for about 10 days. Food would have been amazing as dh was shattered after running around after me and ds 24/7 so we mostly had takeaways - nice as a treat but sickening after day 6!

Also, a friend bought me some lovely bath smellies, a lovely thought but you have to use anti bacterial wash on the wound and avoid perfumed products till your all healed up - so I don't get to use them for weeks.

My Mom sent in a large make-up bag filled with body spray, FemFresh bodywash and wipes, facial cleansing wipes, facial moisturiser, yummy lip balm, hand cream Smile She also sent in a lovely smoked salmon and brie bagel Smile (separately, not in the make-up bag!)

She read my mind without me knowing I wanted these things in the first place. They made me feel more like 'me' when I was a bit too weak to stand in the shower alone. I could wash without having to walk anywhere.

OMG, I love my Mom x

(I still have the bag and use the same brand of body wash almost 2y later Smile )
