... And have a question: if pessary/ARM/drip doesn't work, how long is it before they look at alternatives?

TIA

Guess it depends how you're coping.
1st induction for me took 4 days. Was awful and ended in emcs.
2nd I expressed worries and asked for ARM. When this wasn't possible I said bugger the drip let's go for cs.
Much better and v speedy recovery.

Ok ... It sounds as if they're receptive, at least, to looking at other things if induction doesn't seem to be working out. Second dc but first induction here - and am shitting myself

I had an induction last week, honestly don't worry about it. It was planned 1st pessary on Saturday, if it didn't work another on Sunday, if that didn't work the cs on Monday. But heres what happened...

10am pessary given
...... nothing.....
11pm first waves of labour/discomfort
Midnight Very uncomfortable, needed painkillers
2am full labour pains, 1-2 mins apart
4:30am baby arrived
Woosh!! :)

You are not be obliged to be induced it is your choice, you can go in to be monitored instead.

But it might be daft not to be induced if there are concerns about the baby. Doctors don't just advise induction for a laugh. It is to try to prevent dead and damaged babies.

I was induced early because of concerns about DD2. I wasn't given a pessary because I was already 3cm with bulging waters. Waters were broken and not much happened after a few hours, so I was started on the drip. Now that did hurt but the epidural was lovely. I could still feel the contractions but they weren't painful and it was nice and light so I could still move my legs, although I probably wouldn't have been safe to walk about. DD2 was born in less than 4 hours with 5 minutes of pushing.

I have had an uncomplicated homebirth as well before (along with an induction following the intra-uterine death of my DD1) and can honestly say that both times were lovely experiences.
