Childbirth in Spain - any advice/experiences?

hello,

I'm having my first baby in Spain and have heard that you are only given the option of having an epidural, and that if you need/want to have a C-section the husband is not allowed to be present.

Does anyone have any experience of childbirth in Spain please?

Thank you!!!

My sil had two c sections and my brother was not allowed to be there- and was 't allowed in for over an hour afterwards. No complications. There seemed to be a lot of going by the book- apparantly I would have automatically have had c sections for mine because they were big, for example. But presumably hospitals are all different.

Thanks Curlew- from the research I've done seems to be the norm to not let the husband in- seems quite old fashioned! Not sure I can do it on my own!

Hi! I have birth in Spain in September and had a really positive experience, I'm on my phone at the moment as on the way to the supermarket but I will come back later and give you all the details. to put your mind at rest my care was far better than friends in the his experiences, and I didn't (still don't) speak much Spanish.

I didn't have a cs but my boss was in the room for his daughters CA birth back in July, perhaps it varies from hospital/region or has changed recent ly. DJ wasn't allowed in during the epidural administration though. I was told 90% of women have the epi, they have a different attitude to the UK about it, they don't seem to understand why you would want to feel any pain neither do I if I'm honest

CA birth = CS birth. Sorry

Thanks Umlauf - yes - I guess pain relief is a plus, just heard that there can be bad side effects to an epidural - including for the baby. Oh well - I guess I don't have a choice!
