Water broken but no contractions

With first baby my water broke but had no contractions. After 24 hr I was induced and ended up with epidural forceps and 3a tear. Now pregnant with second baby, exactly on the same day (38weeks precisely) water have broken but again no contractions! Terrified of going down the same route as last time. What's wrong with me? Why my body cant labour properly?? Anybody else had this happening twice??

I had similar with DS (my first) but they were worried about his heart rate dipping so gave me an episiotomy (the midwives later described it as a "big one" - I couldn't bear to check!) so I escaped the tear.

With DD1 and subsequently DD2 I suffered placenta praevia so had to have CS's. So I understand how you feel.

Have you spoken to the labour suite? With DS my waters went in the early hours of Thursday and I was checked Thursday morning, Friday morning then admitted for induction Friday night. Do you have a plan yet?

Tell your midwives of your concerns.

I looked on my two pp pregnancies (with DD1 I was in hospital for 3.5 weeks before her birth, with DD2 I had 6 admissions from 24 weeks onwards ending in am emergency section at 36+1) as successful as I left hospital with a healthy baby. Please don't beat yourself up.

I only have the one child, but my water broke at 38 weeks and contractions didn't come immediately. I did a lot of walking and nipple stimulation. My labor was slow to get going, lasted nearly 24 hrs. I was so worried about it at the time thinking something was wrong. I wish I hadn't though. It 's called spontaneous rupture of membranes, and labor will usually start on it's own within a day.

Problem is this time I am gbs positive so they wanted me to go in for induction straight away. I refused and said I'll wait until the morning to see if things start on their own but nothing happening so far..... I know that the important thing is a healthy baby, I don't care so much about having a natural birth, I just don't want to end up with huge tear like last time as I was told I could have incontinence problems (which luckily I didn't). :(

I think if you can stay mobile and perhaps postpone an epidural you may avoid an episiotomy. Try not to worry. Do nipple stimulation, or anything to get it going before you go in. Enjoy this special time as much as you can.
