Stinging when I pee after stitches...normal or not??

I had our dc1 a week ago and had a 2nd degree tear so needed stitches. At first it was fine but over time it's just unbearable to pee, I literally could cry and dread having to go.

I know this is prob normal and I'm not expecting it to be a bed of roses but any tips for helping with this and how long will this carry on fir. All the midwife has said is to drink more. No- one has even checked my stitches at all !! At the moment I'm putting some water in the bath and going that way as it's the only thing that helps, poor dh is mortified lol !!! Advice please xxx

I was going to suggest what you're doing anyway, filling the bath and peeing in it. That was the only way I got relief from my stinging stitches. THe other thing I did was to sit in the bath and pour warm water from a jug between my legs. It's not pleasant but it does get better, a week seems an age I know but you'll get there, I did!

I found that leaning as far forward as poss really helped, like with you hands on the floor if you can do it. Mine hurt like he'll from the first wee, so would poss think about getting them checked if it's only just started hurting.

Yes fill a bottle with warm water and pour it over yourself when weeing, and make sure your wee is very dilute.

My midwife recommended a plastic drink bottle with warm water in as I was peeing, it helped, I even added a bit of salt every now and again. She said a few drops if lavender oil in the bath too, won't be long I'm sure!

Yes, jug of as-warm-as-you-can-manage water poured down while you go. It helps!

Lavender and tea tree oil in a cup of milk, then poured into your bath (not the one you've peed in :o) is really nice too.

Congratulations BTW!

Second what fruitloop says. It makes the wee run in the other direction. Hands on the floor if you can. Try it, it really works. And yes pain after a week is normal . Get it checked out though in case of infection.

AmberLeaf · 21/01/2014 19:44

Totally normal.

I always did the jug of water as you pee trick.

TravellingToad · 21/01/2014 19:55

Totally normal. Angle your pelvis so the wee first run down the stitches.

Keep a flannel by the loo and get it soaking wet before you wee then clutch it yourself.

Wee in the shower

Thanx ladies, someone rang me mon and I said it didn't hurt at first but she said that's prob because I was numbed slot whike they did the stitches and obviously now it's all tender and trying to heal. If it carries on I'll get someone to look at my stitches. I'd happily go thru labour again than hi thru this lol xx

It's awful isn't it. They don't warn you it's normal to feel worse before you feel better.

blondebaby111 · 22/01/2014 14:38

They certainly don't warn you . Thanx for the tip about hands on the floor, that is brilliant and most definitely works. I say to my dj now I'm just off to do some toilet acrobats lol xx

I don't think there is much mystery left in your relationship after birth is there?!

Mind you I'm 35 weeks with #2 so watching DD emerge and then listening to me moan about stitches, constipation, sore nipples and the bleeding certainly didn't him off!

Rachaelandbabysofia · 22/01/2014 20:41

I had stitches due to having forceps delivery first few days weren't bad but for a good few days was so sore peeing, was just soo stingy. Would bring tears to my eyes and had a feeling of dreed every time I needed to go. I Tried peeing in bath/shower, putting lavender oil in my baths but nothing seemed to work for me.
