Big baby

Hi all

I'm 36 weeks with my first, had a scan at 35 weeks and estimated weight was already 7.5lb with a head circumference on the 42 week mark. The consultant said he wanted to give me the best shot at a 'natural' delivery which I was pleased about as I'd like to avoid a c section if poss. We have another scan at 37 weeks to see how the growth is doing.

I'm under consultant care as I have an autoimmune disease (lots of GI ulcers, fatigue, skin issues, joint pain). It's been really good in pregnancy, which apparently is quite often the case, and I've been healthy but I'm getting v tired out and can feel something bubbling under the surface (hard to explain).

I'm worried that birthing a big baby will be horrific! I want to start motherhood in the best physical condition I can to give myself a good shot of not getting too ill. I'd like to avoid a v long labour/ emergency section.

The drs said they wouldn't let me go over my due date but I'm thinking of asking for an early induction. Id be keen to hear if anyone has done this with any success and any advice.

I know that the weight is only a (bad) estimate but I've been measuring big from the start and the head measurement is v big!!

Sorry this is so long!

I got gestational diabetes in all three of my pregnancies, with two of them I had to take insulin. The third child, I didn't need any insulin, but then from 30 weeks was constantly being warned that this baby was going to be very big, possibly 12 pounds or more. I was filled with terror. I was monitored and checked every week. One midwife stayed over her shift to see his size as she thought it was going to beat one of their records. He was big, but not that big. He was 9lb 12 ozs.

They don't always get it completely right with estimated birth weights.

Good luck !
