Anyone been induced at 39 weeks and did it work?

I have the choice of induction or elcs at 39 weeks due to a previous loss- no medical reason. DS died shortly after a frantic and unexpected emcs after reduced movement. He died of damage already done and would have been stillborn had i not had the section, he did not die from the emcs, however, I am nervous of having another frantic birth and bringing back memories if the vb or induction goes wrong.

I have had a VB with DD and I would like to try for another, but I'm trying to establish if induction is likely to work or whether I'm likely to end up with a section anyway! Hospital are being supportive and are leaving the decision to me, but they do want me to deliver at 39 weeks.

I was induced at 38+4 and it worked, however I was already 2cm and they were able to just break my waters. It totally depends on your cervix etc. no harm in asking them to check if you're 'favourable?'
Very sorry for the loss of your DS and good luck!

I was induced at 39 weeks for blood condition...My waters broke 2 hours after pessary was inserted and gave birth 2 hours and 21 minutes later...

So yes worked well for me

I was induced at 39 weeks with DC3. First peasant caused only v mild discomfort. Six hours of not much at all happening then they broke my waters. DS was born under an hour later. Easiest of all my births.

Good luck and I'm very sorry to hear of your loss.

I was nearer 40 weeks but I was induced with no sign of labour at all. Because i had already had a baby they didn't mess around with pessaries or such like and just put me on the drip. Under 2 hours later ds was born. It was very easy, quick and nice.

Lots of luck to you.

I was induced at 36 weeks because my son had stopped growing. I'd had no signs of being ready for labour at all. They tried the pessary and it didn't work, so they manually broke my waters and put me on the drip. It was fine - I ended up with an epidural when the contractions got bad but I probably could have done without.

i am so sorry for your loss.

As you have had children before it is likely that the midwife will be able to break your waters easily which should trigger labour without too much further intervention. If it doesn't the pessary is quite effective and failing that there is always the drip.

I was induced at 41+3 with DD1, 38w with DD2 and 39w with DS. Only the first induction took forever. The other two look a couple of hours and i was holding my baby. No signs of imminent labour at any time. Had internals to check the status of my cervix the day before each time. 1st one i was not ripe at all. 2nd i was soft and 3cm and 3rd i was the same.

Given your history i should think that they would let you have a go at induction and at the first sign of it not progressing, being given the option of a section then and there.

I hope it goes well for you.
