It's been 9 weeks since my section and I really want to get moving again. I've had three now but didn't really excercise after the previous two so am a bit out of condition. I was thinking maybe yoga or something? I want to do it at home as getting to a class is tricky with three kids under five. I assume I'm okay to work out, I asked my doctor and she said 'I don't see why not' but she hasn't actually felt my tummy, does this matter? TIa!

I don't think it matters that the doc hasn't felt your tummy. If you feel up to it then some gentle excercise would be fine I'm sure but I don't know if it's wise to start something completely new to you without getting some expert advice first. Would it be possible for you to go to a few classes so that you know you have got the basics right?

Thanks for your reply. I did yoga before having children so know a bit about what I am doing. I'm in the sticks so getting to a class isn't easy, but a yoga studio is opening in the next village soon. Thanks again!

how bout swimming to start off with? brisk walking?

LaDiDaDi · 28/07/2006 13:01

Go for it then. I'm 11 weeks post section and I've been doing sit ups for the past two weeks and haven't had any probs.

Hi, you need to do gentle exercise as the muscles need to come together first before you start doing anything strenuous. Try going on all fours and arching your back like there is a string attached to your spine, repeat 12 and rest. This is gentle enough not to cause damage. If you do any sort of sit up I would advise holding a pillow against your tummy for support. But wait a while, the walking and swimming is the best solution. Get a Swiss BAll, you know the big ones and a book with some exercises in or a video, that is great for at home, it costs a few quid and you can do 3 30 mins sessions a week and you will see amazing results as your core muscles work the whole time while you work out. And the kids will love playing with the ball afterwards!

Hi, thanks for all the replies. Swimming i ssadly out as our nearest pool is seriously manky. Walking I can do once the weather cools a bit.
