Waiting for cs right now: terrified

I am in hospital right now waiting for my elc. I've had two before so I should be a pro but last time there was huge issue getting spinal block in. I am having constant vivid flash backs to the pain and nightmare of getting the spinal block onboard & I'm looking for some mn folk to share their positive cs stories about it going in 1st time!

I had problems with the epidural in my first CS, so much so that I ended up with a general. The next two, eith spinals, were fine. Good luck!!

HavingAnOffDAy · 13/01/2014 07:13

Hi. Good luck! I've had 2 DC by ELC and I know how awful that wait can be...do you know where you are on the theatre list? I was 2nd with DS and he was born at 12:13Smile

Both times for me the spinal has gone in fine. I did ask them for more of the initial stuff for numbing the site before they started though as I seem to have a high tolerance (dentist is awful!). Could this be an option for you?

I think knowing what lies ahead is sometimes worse that blissful ignorance though.

Do you know what you're having?

HavingAnOffDAy · 13/01/2014 07:15

Just twitchy as well - doesn't the anaesthetist come round for a 'chat' before the op? Def raise your concerns with them

Meglet · 13/01/2014 07:20

Aah, it's nerve wracking waiting for an ELCS isn't it. Are you first on the list?

FWIW both my spinal blocks (EMCS and ELCS) went in fine. Can you let the anaesthetist know when they see you, that's if it's not already on your notes?

leelteloo · 13/01/2014 07:21

I will, and ask for more local. I think I was a bit traumatised after last time, 20 mins of jabbing that bloody needle in my spine! I'm have a boy. Thanks for your replies.

I was dreading the canular being put in my hand 2nd time round as that really hurt with DD.

If you stress your concerns to anyone who will listen hopefully they'll take it in board - I've found the theatre staff to be great on both occasions.

Best of luck and enjoy those newborn cuddles later Smile I'm extremely jealous Wink

No experience but wanted to say good luck and pretty soon you'll have your lovely baby boy Thanks

Colinbakergotfat · 13/01/2014 07:35

I think for elcs they often get jr anaesthetists to do the spinal. The jr dr was quite offended when I asked for a consultant to put my spinal in, but seeing as it took her 9 attempts to put the cannula in I wasn't taking any chances. After 2 horrific experiences of poking away and grinding against bone (previous cs) the third time was amazing. Straight in and no pain.

V exciting - keep your eye on the prize!

SqutterNutBaush · 13/01/2014 07:47

I had an EMCS in 2006 and like you they struggled to get Spinal in, morphine drip the lot. It was all done by a junior anaesthetist and being a teenager my DP and I didn't think we could say no so just say and got on with it especially as my son wad in distress.

I was terrified of having another baby because if all this but on March last year I had a partial ELC (breech baby) and made sure I specofied with the consultant that I didn't mind junior watching but I didn't want them to take part.

I was.a nervous wreck walking down to theatre and almost backed out of it but everyone was great and I felt so at ease once it begam.

20 minutes after wandering down my DD wad bornhappy and healthy

SqutterNutBaush · 13/01/2014 07:49

Posted too soon wanted to say Good Luck and don't be afraid to speak up if its not going how you want it too but I'm sure you'll be fine :)
