Deferring induction? meeting tomorrow

Hello!
I'm 40 +9 and was really hoping for a 'natural' start to labour as my son was induced at 40+10 and it wasn't a good experience.

I have a meeting at the hospital with docs tomorrow to discuss 'deferring labour' past 42 weeks, does anyone have any experience of this as From reading it seems most hospitals are against it.

Obviously I don't want to do anything that puts the baby at risk, but there seem to be risks involved with inducing and waiting.

I'm not really sure what to expect from the meeting, will it just be a chat or will they do an internal exam to see if I am progressing towards labour at all?

Any info appreciated, thanks in advance!

I'd personally want baby out asap. The quality of the placenta starts deteriorating which increases the risk of stillbirth.

I wouldn't risk it , when I was overdue they discussed the risks with me and there is a very small chance of stillbirth.

Most places induce at 42 weeks and aren't keen to do it before unless there are medical issues so nit sure why u hav the meeting unless there is a complication?
Try not to stress about it my baby came the day before I was booked in for my induction!

Can you ask them to do a sweep?

You are right. Your 30s will be better than your 20s. In my experience my 40s are even better than my 30s.

whoops wrong thread.

Its what my midwife suggested tbh, so I didn't really question it. She said they will do heart monitoring and scans every couple of days to check placenta/baby are still ok. I think induction is usually 42 weeks here, so i've got up to friday for her to come out by herself!!

I would read the NICE guidance on Induction of Labour, preferably the full version. It's online and contains all the statistics on the risks of either approach and will mean you can have an informed discussion at the meeting. I haven't had one but imagine it's about going through the risks with you (and probably trying to persuade you to have an induction).

Do you think the due date is right?

The risk of stillbirth approximately doubles after 42 weeks but it is still very small. As you say there are also risks to induction.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
