Myself and another MNetter have been wondering how on earth we get baby home from the hospital if you are using a taxi?? I presume using a car seat is the obvious answer but if you don't have a car (so don't want to buy one) and are unable to borrow a car seat, is there an alternative and acceptable way?? Please help!

Please read what i have posted on my thread , and i wouldnt buy second hand the car seat i have that was involved in the crash looks perfect (i have only had it ten weeks) but it was involved in a serious accident and took all the impact saving my dd so would not be safe in another crash.
Yes £40 is alot when added to all the other expensive items but how much is your child's life worth? I was in a crash, i slammed into the dashboard i wouldnt have been able to hold my dd- i would have crushed her.

I had a chat with DH last night about it and he's quite keen on the carrying-baby-home idea

So I think I'll continue bugging the friend & cousin for their loans, but if they don't come good there's a safe alternative.

One thing that worries me about the laws governing taxis is that while they're more likely to provide child-seats, you can never really know that they are in a safe condition. Same with borrowing from the hospital - surely it's a bit like having second hand?

In my maternity unit they would not let you discharge unless the baby was in a car seat, apparantly even carrying your own baby in your arms out of the hospital is against their health and safety regulations, so my DH had to go back to the car and unstrap the seat he'd taken ages to work out how to fit in the first place just so we could leave.

But I would say it is worth buying one anyway, we got one for £30 in the mothercare sale so it isn't very costly, and it is nice to know you have one for if you decide to go out with friends who drive, or for visiting family with cars.
We also used ours for DS to sit in after feeds when he went through a bout of reflux as it was better than him being flat on his back.
