Hi all,
I had an episiotomy 3 and a half weeks ago. It seems to have healed quite well by the look of it.
The scar looks ok but the labia has a slight flap ( best way to describe it!)
It doesn't look like any open flesh or anything and the scar looks very near with no holes.
My question is it sometimes is a little uncomfortable. It almost very slightly stings - wouldn't say is painful , I can just feel it.
I'm
Assuming it is scar tissue rubbing on my pad ( still loosing lochia).
Is this normal do you think and anyone experienced this? I'm sure it is ok I think I'm just paranoid as I've heard so many people need re stiching!

It is common to get a small tear to the inner labia. Because it does not impair function or strength of the pelvic floor, mws and drs do not always stitch these. This is because the stitches can be very irritating. It can also be difficult to do a good repair on this very thin and fragile bit.

I still have a notch!

I would say its normal as you describe it as discomfort rather than pain. The area could still be a little bit swollen (especially if you had instrumental delivery) and just resettling.

I had an episiotomy (and 4th degree tear) 2 years ago and still get discomfort when using pads on occasion, which is the scar rubbing but it has fully healed, its just a lot more sensitive than the other skin. I'm assuming you are still using maternity pads as well which are a lot thicker so it might be worth trying normal pads (and changing more often) if you are not bleeding as heavily.
