Anyone who has had a C-Section

Hi.

Sorry for being so nosy but I have had a c section myself. I was just wondering what your reason for having a c section was and if you had one, did you have one with subsequent/previous pregnancies?

I have only had one child and it was a c section due to PE but would've loved a natural birth but was told I should still be able to with my next pregnancy.

Elective section at what was supposed to be 40 weeks. date based on a late dating scan at 19 weeks. I'd only found out I was pregnant 2 weeks earlier.

I had two failed sweeps and three lots of gel. I didn't progress past 1cm dilated, so they wouldn't put me on the Pitocin and I wasn't prepared to let them break my waters.

I'm quite small and my OB was worried that baby was big. I chose to have an elective section rather than a prolonged fruitless labour and a EMCS.

DS was 10lb 11oz. My placenta was calcifying and he had the cord wrapped round his neck twice

EMCS with DS because he was undiagnosed breech and had pooed.

OiMissus · 24/01/2014 11:19

Emcs - 41+1 - waters had broken, but labour didn't start, was induced with sintocin (?), but didn't progress beyond 7cm. DS appeared with a true cone-shaped head and weighing 9lbs. Looked like he'd been trying to get out for a while!
If I conceive again (fx) I would like to have an ELCS. There's not much point putting myself through all that again if my body isn't going to let the LO out naturally.
I'm looking forward to having a bit more control next time.
Originally I wanted a home birth in a pool! I ended up in hospital, on a monitor, on sintocin, gas and air, there was no sign of an epidural - for over 7 hours - so the midwife pleaded with me to let her give me pethadone or diamorphine (? I've slept since), then eventually got an epidural and ended up with surgery!
My experience wasn't at all bad. I had excellent care. But next time, ELCS, I'm taking back some control.

ELCS, twin pregnancy, they were both breach and had IuGR, so delivered at 35 Weeks.

Chopsypie · 24/01/2014 11:38

1st was emcs due to fetal distress (only in labour for 2 hours)
2nd was elcs recommended due to short time between births (17 months)
If I had another id like to try vbac but suspect I would be unsupported.

Two ELCS as first DC was breech and second was 10 days overdue and hospital policy was not to induce VBACs.

DD1 - VB after hours of labour and 2hrs pushing. She was born via ventouse as she was stuck and we were both exhauated. I damaged my tailbone in the process which took a few physiotherapy sessions to alleviate and I still get pain from it almost 5y later.

DD2 - Maternal Request ELCS, although the tailbone issue was a legitimate medical reason in my mind. My OB disagreed and I had to jump through hoops to have the CS agreed. He was an excellent surgeon but he terrified me with what could go wrong, whilst disregarding the very real pain I suffered with my tailbone. Ultimately, he said that if I damaged ny tailbone with another labour, he didn't want me to blame him for it.

If we have any mire DCs, I wouldn't VBAC. I would request another CS (this is something I am grappling with as I feel nervous at the idea of repeat CS. I only have a scar. Its fab. I'm worried about not getting away with it if there's a next time ...)

elliejjtiny · 24/01/2014 15:24

DS's 1-3 all VB's

DS4 - EMCS at 35+3 because my waters broke at 35+1, he wasn't engaged and his feet were next to his head.

Currently 17 weeks and hoping for a VBAC

DS1 - Elective CS as he was breech with one leg up by his ear and the other tucked underneath. Didn't feel very "elective", it felt like I didn't really have a choice in the matter. It transpired that I have a bicornuate uterus which is why DS1 was completely stuck and unable to turn.

DS2 - VBAC with just g&A, whilst on crutches recovering from orthopaedic surgery! Shock

BobPatSamandIgglePiggle · 24/01/2014 22:00

Emcs at 34 weeks after a scan showed a notch in the cord and reduced growth.

omuwalamulungi · 24/01/2014 22:04

ELCS - first baby. I got cold feet about my planned early induction (wasn't allowed a MW led unit) and asked for a CS instead.

I also have a blood disorder and wanted a clear window of when I would NOT be taking Heparin. They had admitted with an induction I might be off it for up to 5 days, with my CS I was off it for less than 24 hours, was much less stressed, had my baby and was up and about from the next afternoon. Stayed in hosp for 5 days in total, I could not praise the staff involved highly enough.

It took about eight weeks to recover fully, but that's to be expected and I think I will choose a section rather than VBAC if I have another baby too.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 24/01/2014 22:05

I had an emcs due to cord prolapse at 32 weeks. I have a hip to hip scar and also internal cuts so was told elcs would be the best thing with any future pg.

How ever I then lost a baby due to incompetant cervix so when I became pg again and had a stitch placed I was told I could try for a vbac, as long as I didnt go to term.

At 38 weeks I opted for an elcs

MoominsYonisAreScary · 24/01/2014 22:11

I would have loved a vbac, ds1 &2 were vb but ds1 was 11lb 2 (my only full term baby);and yhe registrar and consultant were worried that my scar might rupture if I had another karge baby, especially as I cant be induced due to scarring

MajesticWhine · 24/01/2014 22:16

Had EMCS with DD2, (10cm dilated, baby stuck) then had cervical tear and a massive haemorrhage.
Had ELCS with DD3, because I was terrified of the same thing happening again.
