C-section again for next baby?

I was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this, I had an EMCS due to a failed induction and my DS was back to back. Would I be able to have an elective section if I had another baby? Or do they try to get you to have a VBAC?
Also I had an infection in my placenta, does anyone know if that's likely to happen again? Or who can I ask to find these things out?

Watching with interest Hamnvik. I had forceps with dc1, emcs with dc2 and am pregnant with no 3. I felt consultant at booking appointment was really pressuring me for vbac and even said that third degree tear with no1 wasn't that bad.
Be strong and clear about what YOU want. Smile

Have you had a debrief? I had an emcs because of a raging infection in me and DD that no one picked up for a long time, DD was actually very poorly. I had a debrief where the senior midwife told me the infection was rare and just one of those things (she was lovely and even went to check with a consultant, who agreed) but who also said that this was a sort of extra point for me should I want an elcs next time around.

I friend recently had an elcs for DC2 after an emcs for failure to progress and the baby getting distressed first time around, so no clear medical reason iyswim. She said it was a bit of an argument but she just stuck to her guns and they eventually agreed.

At my hospital they leave the decision entirely you to you. They don't persuade you either way, other than to tell you the risks and benefits of VBAC and ELCS, and are entirely supportive of your decision.

But it may depend on your hospital....

Hamnvik · 07/01/2014 18:24

No I haven't had a debrief, I don't live there now either. They didn't pick up on the infection until during the csection and DS was fine, my mum had the same thing though and she had it with both babies.
I didn't dilate at all and they had to turn off the drip as it made my uterus go into spasm. Also DS was 8lb9oz and I'm only 5ft, I'm guessing the next baby will be just as big if not bigger. I will put up a fight if I have to, I don't want to go through another 4 day induction for nothing!

Same as pink.

I was given the facts and told to make my own choice.

I had a bit of a discussion about my choice (elcs) to ensure I understood the risks then they booked me in for 39 weeks.

No one was pushy or tried to convince me in either direction.

Hamnvik · 07/01/2014 18:25

Which hospital is that Pink? I wonder how you find that out?

OP..sounds like your labour was the same as mine but with the induction. I'm having a ELCS, we told the consultant (different hospital) what happen and she ask what we wanted too do!

As it turns out, baby is transverse so I'd be have a ELCS regardless Smile just confirms I've made the right decision!

Good luck.

YoMamma · 07/01/2014 19:16

I felt slightly pushed towards a vbac but that was my preferred option anyway.

PinkandPoo · 07/01/2014 19:44

Hamnvik it was Liverpool Women's.

I don't know how you'd find out, maybe your midwife will know the local hospital policy?

I saw a consultant who went through my previous notes with me and told me pros and cons of VBAC and ELCS.

Depending on my decision I could meet with consultant midwife who would come up with a VBAC birth plan with me based on my previous history, or book a date for an ELCS.

They gave me loads of time to make my decision, I think I let them know about 34 weeks. I can even change my mind at any point apparently.

Strongecoffeeismydrug · 08/01/2014 08:40

I had a vaginal birth with first but she was very big got stuck and I ended up with forceps.
Second he was even bigger so consultant said I recommend c section and he was born via section the next day.
I'm currently 35 weeks with 3rd but she's actually not measuring too big, consultant just said how would YOU like this baby delivered, I said c section and so she booked me in with not even a mention of a v bac.
So even tho this one could probably be born vaginally no one has even battered an eyelid at my choice Smile.

OhCaptainDarling · 08/01/2014 10:39

Should of added, at my booking appointment with the MW about 8wks. The MW asked me about my birthing choice, we had a good chat about previous labour and all the complications, difficulties. How I felt awards, feeding etc etc. she agree with me that a ELCS would be best for me, and wrote a letter suggesting this and recommending a particular consultant who specialises in women who have had difficult traumatic labours.

Hamnvik I had an almost identical experience with my first. I felt a bit pushed into vbac at the beginning but was on the fence anyway so went along to vbac appointment at 28 weeks. Ended up with a v sympathetic consultant midwife who basically recommended another section due to me not wanting any interventions this time and to avoid long labour followed by emcs at all costs. Went back at 36 weeks expecting some discussion and was booked right in. So now I have 2 weeks to go!

I didn't undertake the decision lightly, if I could be guaranteed an intervention free 'easy' birth and home in six hours I would definitely go natural, I just felt it was unlikely and the vbac midwife also seemed to think that.

Hth.

mrsvilliers · 08/01/2014 20:52

Sorry if not clear, am on pregnancy no 2, obviously...

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 09/01/2014 10:09

They will probably try and push you to have a vback I would simply fight hard for the section if you want one....say you are too afraid of going through trial of labour again as labour is un predictable as you know and scary and you feel more comfortable going straight for section, and you know what it entails and so on...good luck
