I know it has been done to death, but i am in middle of packing my bag and brain has gone blank to what i need.

So far i have....

ME...

Big knickers
Toiletries (hair brush etc)
Pads
2 X nighties
2 X towels
2 X sponges
Flip flops
Outfit for coming home
Arnica
Light dressing gown.

BABY

Sleepsuits
Vests
Cotton wool
Nappies
Scratch mitts
2 X summer outfits (rompers)
Socks

Is there anything else i haven't thought of?

Remember magazines/books/puzzles to keep you occupied when LO is sleeping

Earplugs (you'll still hear LO, but hopefully not everyone else's/general hospital clattering at 5am)
Eye mask to help you sleep or rest in the day, if you get the chance.

straws, so you can drink lying down?
snacks?

Change for the phone?

what about towel for baby or is that included in 2 x towels? Also they took my toe nailvarnish off before i went into theatre and made a right mess of it (couldn't take it off properly till i went home 4 days later!) just treated myself to a pedicure a week before (bummer eh?) so that might be worth considering

FOOD!!! (unless you are going to a posh private hospital)

Oh yes - food!!

True - I was in the dinner queue and the lady in front asked what veggie specials were on. The dinner lady looked aroung, ummed and aa-ed then said

"They've all gone love. But there's a halal meat meal here if that's any use to you?"

attractive hair/head band to hold hair back in labour and even tho hideously expensive lovely evian water spray for face.lovely hand cream makes you smell nice when your visitors come

dried fruit so you can poo and go!

why do they remove nail varnish on your feet? As far as I'm aware, the baby isn't coming from that end of my legs? can someone explain???!!

Take water as well, so when you're bedbound you don't necessarily have to rely on the nurses having filled up those big jugs.

nail varnish is removed from your toes so that they can keep an eye on your circulation. If your little pinkies start looking less than pink, it may indicate a clot or lack of oxygen etc.

shave your own bits, they hacked me to pieces with a scratty old bic thing.

Some body wipes, so that if you are still in bed you can freshen your self up. (depends if you have a caphiter or not). Make sure you nightie is loose enough to get you arm through if you have a drip in too.

just remembered something else our midwife was talking about - a hat for the baby, even though it's hot! Seems a bit mad, but she said they lose loads of heat through their head, so you'd need one to bring them home.

Yes, even though ds was born in August he still wore the hat! Our hospital provided them, but it couldn't hurt to be prepared.

oh and breast pads - you might not need them as it depends how long it takes for the milk to come in, and how long you're in hospital for. But best to be prepared!

As a veteran if three sections I found even big knickers too tight for my tummy. Take in some of dh/dp's boxers!
