I drank it after a sweep. Consultant said it does work but have to drink it by the pint load.

I did have DS next day but was 42+1 and sweep had me at 3cm ...

McRoo · 05/01/2014 19:30

No.

Think you're actually meant to drink it over a period of weeks, gradually increasing the amounts and it helps labour be smoother.

Bollocks.

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2014 19:34

I think drinking it to excess is supposed to cause increased risk of prem labour if drank too early.
I thought drinking it by the bucket in later pg meant you should have better contractions and an easier labour.
Drank it for both pg. 1st born 2 1/2 hours after arriving at hospital. 2nd labour 59 minutes from first contraction!

gamerchick · 05/01/2014 19:35

Raspberry leaf tea is to help with a shorter pushing stage. Not to bring on labour.

SauceForTheGander · 05/01/2014 19:37

Yes wolfie that's what my consultant told me.

It wasn't so but DS was HUGE

louise182 · 05/01/2014 19:37

Im not holding out any hopes i know its not proven to induce labour but thought i would give it a try! Cant hurt..,

Nothing can induce labour short of chemical induction. None of the old wives' tales have any truth to them. And raspberry leaf tea isn't linked with labour starting as others have said. It's a uterine tonic, taken to make the uterus more efficient in your pushing stage.

Drink it if you like it, but it won't start labour.

gamerchick · 05/01/2014 19:54

I hope things get started for you soon.. waiting for labour mega sucks. Good luck.

Excited85 · 05/01/2014 20:16

I started taking raspberry leaf tea capsules from 37 weeks and went from 4cm to baby in less than 2 hours of active labour. Definitely think they contributed to quick and efficient contractions - worth a try! But pretty sure they aren't meant to induce labour, I was 10 days over so certainly didn't for me!

louise182 · 05/01/2014 20:58

As i said, i am aware nothing regarding inducing labour is proven. I am drinking hoping it helps when the time comes.
I just wondered if anybody had experienced labour starting shortly after starting to drink it, as i have heard conflicting information about what it is capable of.

Thanks gamerchick... Hoping things get moving soon I'm sooooo big and heavy and tired now !

I took the tablets as I don't like tea. Both My labours were quite fast
ds1 contractions really got going at 9pm. Went into hospital at 1am. Was 10cm dilated. Waters broken in the hospital Ds born at 3am. 20 minutes pushing.
ds2 contractions started at 8am, when waters went. Really got going at 2pm. Went it to hospital at 5pm. Ds born at 7pm.
I don't know if it was me or taking the tablets but both labours were fast and so must have been efficiently contracting!
I spoke to my midwife about when to start taking them.

pumpkinsweetie · 05/01/2014 21:45

I drank it from 37 weeks with dd4, waters broke at 12am, contractions started at 10am, got to the hospital for 11:45 and had her by 12:45 so think it helped labour progress faster but she was 4 days overdue.

Due today with dd5 and been drinking it since 37 weeks, had strong bh, especially bad fri evening and now nothing. I take it in hope lolGrin
Tried the curry, the sex, the pineapple lots of it, the tea, the dancing baby out, it all worth a try but none of it has ever worked for me! Think she's in for the long haulGrin, dd1 & dd2 were both 13-14 days over (induced) and dd3 9 days over. My body must be cozy, they don't wanna leaveWink

readyforno2 · 05/01/2014 21:47

Didn't make me go into labour.. But I was only pushing for 5 mins.
I love raspberry leaf tea. Still drink it now

You're contradicting yourself a little bit. You know it doesn't start labour but wondering if it started anybody's labour? Of course some people will drink it and labour will start, others will drink it and it won't. All the evidence we have tells us it's nothing to do with when labour starts. I know that the end bit can be a bit miserable and everybody is treating you like a ticking clock but the best thing to do is try and find every single way you can of being comfortable. You can't start labour. Babies come when they're good and ready and you wouldn't want it any other way. The curry, sex, pineapple, long walks stuff is not only not going to help but also all the myths seem to be things which induce fatigue and indigestion. I think the end of pregnancy is a time when you can and should do whatever makes you feel comfortable safe in the knowledge that it won't be long. Of course if what makes you happy is eating curry while having rampant sex, do that but don't feel that you have to do it or demoralised because you did it and you didn't go into labour. Pregnancy is stressful enough without added expectation.

I drink raspberry leaf tea anyway as I like it but towards the end of my first pregnancy, I drank quite a lot of raspberry leaf/nettle mixed together (anaemic and hoping for an efficient homebirth). My labour was 31 hours in total and I pushed for 8 hours with no baby to show for it. That's my experience of RLT! This is anecdotal of course. It certainly didn't have any negative effects but in general terms, it might make your contractions more efficient, no more no less. May as well drink it as not.

If you like anecdotal though, I went into labour both times whilst sitting down and within an hour of eating Jaffa cakes. Worth a try, eh?Grin

louise182 · 06/01/2014 13:39

As i said, while i am aware that nothing regarding setting labour off is proven, i have heard conflicting information and stories about what raspberry leaf tea is capable of. Im not one for scouring the internet and reading page upon page of information, and thought asking those who will have been through it themselves direct may be more helpful.

I just wondered what peoples experiences were, i am not desperately trying to induce my labour, i was just curious.

As i also said, i am drinking it without holding out any hopes for it kick starting labour (because i am well aware it isn't proven to start anything) but thought it is worth a try to assist me whenever labour does begin.

I will add again, i was just curious about experiences, i am not drinking RLT while shovelling hot curry in my face and having sex all at once Grin

Neither am i feeling demoralised or miserable in the last stages of my pregnancy...

I'm glad you don't feel demoralised or miserable. Smile Sadly, there's at least two threads a week with women on here feeling disappointed and pressured at the end of pregnancy and trying all sorts of things to kickstart labour and ending up fed up. I was including all that information for any of those women lurking.

Jaffa cakes work though. Promise. Grin

Best of luck for the labour and delivery. Such an exciting time.

meeliesmum · 07/01/2014 22:30

Itook tablets from34 weeks with first baby - result a long 1st stage but 30 minte 2nd stage. Second baby started at about 37 weeks but not as regularly- result after long 1st stage and an inefficient 2nd stage- eventually delivered after a syntocinon infusion. If I were to have another I would definitely take the tablets properly.
