EMCS how long did your scar hurt for?

I know it's probably different for everyone but just wanted to have other people's experiences Smile

I had an EMCS 4 weeks ago after a very long labour which wasn't progressing properly. My beautiful boy was born weighing 9lb 6oz so a big baby despite me being tiny Shock

The first two weeks I found very painful and tiring and felt really quite unwell but put it down to the trauma as well as the surgery.

I feel much better now but my scar is still quite painful at times and aches quite a lot. I don't feel up to driving and struggle to walk holding my son (who is now almost 11lb).

When did you feel better? Please share! X

I had no pain at all either time but have friends who have been tender for a good couple of months. The spectrum is vast and there's only really what's normal for you. Are you taking it easy enough? No need to drive if you aren't feeling up to it. Have you tried a sling to distribute the weight of the baby a little more? Are you otherwise okay? No fever or smell/discharge from the wound? Is it a clean wound, all healed up?

Mine was uncomfortably "twitchy" and occasionally painful for a good three - five weeks, I'd say. The trickiest bit was not being able to pull myself up from lying down without help! I'm now four months post-EMCS and it still twinges sometimes. The feeling has soberly come back to the skin and muscles around the scar though.

At least 6 weeks. I remember crying in the supermarket because it hurt to bend over to pop some shopping in the buggy Sad. I found my EMCS recovery hard going.

Can you make the most of the Xmas break and flop at home in your pj's for a few days? No point in dashing around if it hurts.

It will get better in the end though, just hang in there. I was doing an easy routine at the gym by 12 weeks.

I also had an EMCS and my scar hurt for exactly 0 minutes. Couldn't figure out why they kept bringing around pain killers and quietly saved them up for future use (great for migraines!). I did notice it felt slightly numb for a long time, even now (2.5 yrs later) it can sometimes feel a bit numb in certain spots.

I was in agony at first, for first two days I could barely move. Called my best friend and asked her what her recovery was like and she said she hadn't even needed a paracetamol... Urgh. Made me feel a lot worse as I thought I must be weak somehow. That was when I realised it really didn't help hearing about other people's recovery, just had to focus on my own - each op is different and each person is different. If you are in pain you need to listen to that and get the support you need, take it very easy - even if you gVe things to do you have to put your health first or it could set you back. Hope you feel much better soon!

I don't remember exactly, but I do remember thinking I felt quite a bit better after a fortnight or so, but then went to push the buggy up a hill and really struggled, it was sore and really difficult, and realised I was probably overdoing it a bit (and relinquished buggy pushing to DH again). It also relapsed a bit again later, and I still got twinges months later.

4 weeks isn't very long, give yourself some time and don't push yourself.

At least 3 months before I had no pain in the wound. But I had a toddler so probably did more lifting than was wise.

Hope you feel better soon xx

Painful for a couple of weeks then uncomfortable for a couple more.
Ds weighed 10.7 so it was uncomfortable carrying him around for the first month but then eased off.

GlaikitInAPearTree · 30/12/2013 18:06

I'm probably not the best example but I was still having painful twinges after a year. But the scar is twisted. Drs have assured me they will fix it when I have another Hmm
