What to expect - induction early

I'm being induced at 35+6 next week. What should I expect? How likely is it that DS will need to be in SCBU/ICU? I'm quite scared right now.

sorry you are scared, but I'm sure they will take good care of you and baby Smile
if you are allowed to take your own music do it, it will help you feel less stressed while you are waiting for the contractions to start off..

If I'm correct special neonatal care is almost inevitable before 37 weeks, simply because the baby is classed as premature, regardless of their health status.

but as I have no experience myself in this, I will just say good luck, fx for an easy delivery!

Will be thinking of you, im in the same boat (being induced tomorrow @35+4) and petrified for my little one.

Ive been up on a ward and heard the experiances of other ladies who have given birth early, around 35weeks. All babies have gone to some form of special care. One lady had a big baby 7.13lb and he is in intensive care needing support, while another had 5.7lb girl and after a few days was in 'the best room' aka almost ready to go home.

Good luck for your induction

I am due to be induced at 34 weeks due to gestational diabetes and a large baby and I have been told to expect him to be in special baby care for a few days.

I was induced with third DC at 37 weeks. No need for any SCBU/ICU but then he was older than your little one. I am sure the hospital will be set up brilliantly for anything your baby might need, so please try not to be too scared.

I can tell you a bit about the process if you like? They gave me pessary type things to try and kick start labour, when that didn't work they gave me a sweep, and when that didn't work they hooked me up to an IV. Labour started thick and fast then, but I knew that was likely so asked for an epidural straightaway. All in all, the whole process was very calm and 'managed' - they don't leave you alone, unlike in one of my 'natural' births when the midwife buggered off several times.

Let us know how it goes xxx
