11 days later and still very sore.. with that "falling out" feeling... :-(

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if this is totally normal or not, but since I had my DS ten days ago, my pelvic floor/undercarriage (or lack of I should say) has been feeling as though its not getting any better at all.

It hurts to stand and walk as well as to get up from a sitting/laying position. Its sore and uncomfortable, feels heavy and as though all my insides are falling out, and very sensitive.

I know there's been some trauma down there, given that I've just had a baby, but I wondered how normal this feeling was, when it will start to heal and if anyone has any tips for speeding up recovery or encouraging healing...my DS was only 6lb 9, but came very quickly (7 mins pushing) and I had a second degree tear as well as a significant blood loss.

Its making me worry slightly as I'm struggling to get up and pick up my little one, and my other half goes back to work later this week and I won't have any assistance then.

Thanks so much in advance x

I would go and get it checked , you may have an infection.

bundaberg · 09/12/2013 14:08

i was similar with my first. had a ventouse delivery, bad tear, lots and lots and lots of stitches. felt awful down there for a pretty long time tbh

get your midwife to check though, you do need to make sure everything is healing as it should be

Shellywelly1973 · 09/12/2013 14:18

I would speak to your midwife. In the mean time make sure you do your pelvic floor exercises.

I remember feeling as you describe after my 4th dc. Strangely I didn't feel like that after dc5 yet that was when I had a prolapse.

Hope everything works out fine.

MissRatty · 09/12/2013 17:56

I don't think it can be infected as i'm on antibiotics which treat mastitis, and almost finished the course...and there's no smell etc. in the lochia (tmi?).

Been doing my pelvic floor exercises, when I remember, and when comfortable enough to do so. The midwife checked me but that was about 6 days ago and said it was all fine and healing, but rhings could have changed since then.

The health visitor is coming out tomorrow...I'll ask and see what she says.

What were other people's recovery like down there before they stopped feeling as though they'dbeen kicked in the ladybits? X

I had ventouse and episiotomy after a terrible birth but was healed very quickly first time round . Second time round I had cs and terrible painful recovery but the girl next to me was up and about a few hours after so it's difficult to tell. I never felt like something was falling out though so i definitely think you should get checked out by a doctor just in case .

Pizdets · 09/12/2013 19:17

I had a lot of stitches and it's nasty! I think it took about a week for the worst to pass but another week or two before I could stand up/sit down/cough without wanting to hold a hand over my bits in case they dropped out. I found the stitches ran into piles as well which was the worst think (oh joy).

Definitely get it checked to rule out any problems. Second the advice on pelvic floor too - apparently the exercises stimulate blood flow in the area which helps healing.

I tried Tuck's haemmeriod (no idea how to spell that!) pads which I got from amazon, they're soaked in witch hazel and good for soothing and healing your poor bits.

It will probably get better very soon, you'll stand up one day and be halfway into the kitchen before you realise itddidn't hurt!

Good luck and congrats on your new arrival.

Doctorbrownbear · 09/12/2013 19:21

I had forceps and episiotomy and it took me a good 2 weeks before the pain eased up but longer before it stopped pulling when bending down etc.

Grumbliest · 09/12/2013 19:25

I had this after ds2, I had a 2nd degree lateral tear and I could hardly stand or sit up in bed. I also had that falling out, dragging sensation..but thankfully it got better after 3 weeks..Do your pelvic floor exercises. 18months on..I feel fine..hope all gets better for you too

MissRatty · 09/12/2013 20:43

Thanks so much everyone. I'll mention it to the health visitor tomorrow and give it until the weekend. If there's no improvement i'll see the GP to get things checked out. I was never prepared for the pain after having a baby! I had visions of skipping around in bliss! X

Just wondering how you got on? I've been experiencing the same pain (2nd degree tear). Saw my doc at 6 days PP, who put me on bed rest, ice packs, antibiotics (I had night sweats) and anti-inflammatories. Went back today, said I wasn't feeling a great deal better, still a lot of pressure front and back. Said it's just going just time to heal and that it's still early days (currently 11 days PP). Didn't consider I was having a prolapse. Hopefully things will be better at the 6 week check-up. Though after seeing her and walking around at the shops, I went to the loo and ended up peeing before I got to sit on the toilet, so I'm worried that I might be getting a prolapse after all. I haven't had that happen since the first day or two in hospital. Guess I have to work hard on the kegel's. This was a VBAC and wishing I'd had another C-section after all.

scarlettsmummy2 · 17/12/2013 12:02

Similar with first baby, also second degree tear. I was diagnosed with an infection at two week check so would recommend getting checked out. Also had second degree tear with second but fine after a couple of days.

BenNJerry · 19/12/2013 17:37

I had terrible birth. Episiotomy and forceps, huge blood loss with stitches. They hadn't realised DS was not in correct birth position so I didn't go to theatre until after I had been pushing for 4 hours resulting in extremely weak pelvic floor. It took me nearly 2 months to feel "back to normal" but I developed an infection which had to be treated. It was almost three months before I could actually hold it in when I needed to pee! 7 months on and all is fine down there. How are you getting on?

MissRatty · 21/12/2013 22:38

It felt almost 100% better at about two weeks, but it then comes and goes...I think dependent on my activity levels the day before. The falling out feeling has subsided, but pain is still there on occasion.

Tmi perhaps but on iron tablets and the constipation has been awful...two poos blocked my toilet! But also makes things very sore again down there, so I have stopped the iron today as its been hurting when I poo and making it bleed down there.
