Relieving Back pain during OP labour?

After starting to get 10 minute contractions lasting 30 seconds on Friday at 4pm we assumed things would move nicely, how wrong we were.
Sunday morning 5am and we turn up at labour ward with 3 minute contractions lasting a minute....to hear I'm only between 2/3cm dilated and the pains I'm getting are in fact from baby being back to back.
I was given codeine which to be frank has done bugger all, writhing around every few minutes crying out in pain. I'm exhuasted, I'm in so much pain it feels like my spine is going to split through them.
Is there anyone who can suggest something that might just help? I really don't want to call labour ward again as we cant really afford to get another 4 taxis!

Not something you can do at home but you should ask your hospital if they do water papule a, little injections of sterols water under the skin at points in your lower back that for the majority of women massively reduce back ache from an OP position if not take it away entirely. Not many places do them but we've had massive success. You have my sympathies. OP labour is bloody sore!

*papules, sterile. Damn autocorrect and sausage fingers.

Hoping you're back in the hospital now but if not I found a real hard massage from dh in the bottom of my back really helped with my back pain. Only between contractions though not during. Might not sound like much but anything that helps even a little is surely worth a try. Good luck x

Get on all fours and take the pressure off your spine as much as possible. If it gets too much go back to labour ward and ask for better pain relief. If you are exhausted and cannot cope then an epidural may do more good than harm. You can lie on your side, try to sleep and have it turned down or removed later on if you want.

Good luck. OP labour is horrendous.

Had to reply to this as just been through this myself on Friday (and 3 years ago with my DD) - sorry to say the only thing that helped was to go in for an induction and epidural. I was so exhausted after 40hours of contractions, no sleep, no progression beyond 2cm. Sitting in the bath did help to some extent but god knows how long it would have taken without induction. From waters being broken to birth then just 8hours. Had to insist on being induced though. The most frustrating thing is midwives saying 'well U aren't in active labour yet' or writing 'mild, irregular tightenings' on your notes when you are in agony. Every sympathy with you - hope it goes ok.
