Any experience of induction with high closed cervix??

Hi all
I'm 41+1 with my first and had a failed sweep yesterday. My cervix was still high and closed so mw couldn't do it. I'm now resigned to the fact nothing is likely to happen until my induction on Thursday.
Just wondered if anyone had experiences of being induced when cervix is still high and closed? I have no idea on any details as not been told anything! Is it liked to take days?
Thank you!

Some people find popping some evening primrose oil around their cervix, this can help to open it, clary sage oil mixed with a carrier oil rubbed around your bump can help to bring on contractions or strengthen them when they start. Raspberry leaf tea can help to tone up your uterus in preparation for labour.

Ps all of the above should only be done around the due date, warning in early pregnancy they may bring on an early labour.

I was in this situation, very low bishop score at the start of induction. It wasn't great but i did eventually have a normal vaginal delivery. I was stuck on the drip for ages though which was not fun. You do have a higher risk of c section with an induction. However you are overdue and i was not, perhaps the pessary will get things started without needing the drip. Or you could put it off a few days and see what happens, some hospitals don't induce till 42 weeks.

I hesitate to post this, but this was my situation and I ended up with induction (pessary and drip), leading to EMCS. For DS2 I tried for VBAC but he was 2 weeks overdue and I wasn't prepared to be induced after my first experience, so went straight to planned CS eventually.

With high closed cervix I didn't find induction great... If there's any chance to keep mobile after the drip's in, I'd recommend it. I needed an epidural as my BP went sky high so was confined to the bed, I think that's what contributed to me needing a section in the end (DS in a diagonal and back to back position).

I hope that's helpful rather than gloomy! Good luck, hope it all goes brilliantly for you.

Yes.Cervix high, hard and closed at 41 weeks so mw didn't want to do the sweep to not to cause pain.Went to hospital to be induced at 41+6,pessary about 10pm,period like cramps overnight, taken to labour ward about 8am,DS born 11:30.

Good luck, induction is not always so bad!

Had this experience every blinkin time!!!!

Bishops score was 0 with the first on induction day, and 1 with the other 3 (and it was 1 before I even got pregnant as your cervix never fully closes after the first birth)

I was post dates all 4 times. For 2 of them I ended up needing ARM but the other 2 just 1 or 2 pessaries and once in established labout it was pretty quick. So it's not all bad by any means at all.

Keep mobile and upright, refuse continuous monitoring (after the first 40 mins after pessaries), get a tens machine because the pessaries do give you very strange pains!

Me! 7 years ago I was 39+6 Grin

My cervix was about as unfavourable as you get needed the drip and waters broken etc but ultimately was in labour for 6 hours and it was easy - really, kept waiting for it to become unbearable or go wrong but it didn't. Ds was born 13 days overdue absolutely fine.

lougle · 09/12/2013 22:46

I was induced with DD1 at 39+6 with a bishop score of 3 ('and I'm being very, very kind with that score' said the MW).

4 hour labour.

The MWs were so surprised that they had to go through the CTGs afterwards with me and work out what stage of labour I was at, because they didn't realise I was in labour until I was ready to push after 3 hours.

suntodayplease · 09/12/2013 22:49

Yes, at 39 weeks (about 38 according to my dates) after 2 days of pessaries doing sod all, my waters were eventually broken when I was approximately 1/2cm dilated and I was put on the drip. Actual labour was hard and fast and the result meant I did actually avoid a section ( the reason I was induced early in the first place) but I was warned throughout the process (and prepped for theater) that a section may happen if the induction failed. Good luck

Thanks everyone! Feeling much more optimistic now!
My bishop score was 3 on Saturday so hoping the pessary is enough to get things going and am booked in for Thursday am. Fingers crossed it all goes ok- will be 41+5 by then so need this little one out!!

Score of 3 already Envy, hope you have a positive experience without needing that wretched drip!

tracypenisbeaker · 10/12/2013 22:31

The very exact same thing happened to me today, got an induction booked for Sunday so watching with interest. (I'm 41 weeks today)

Blondie276 · 10/12/2013 22:43

Tracy I'll post as soon as I can to let you know- hopefully score will be a little higher by now but still no signs of labour starting by itself - booo!
Fingers crossed it works on thurs!
