No idea I am afraid! My consultant told me that babies pre term were better in than out, but I didn't have chronic back pain. AFAIK, it is not the size of the baby so much as the maturity of the lungs which is the factor for keeping the baby in. Sorry not to have more positive advice, but it may be that in your case it is better for both of you for the baby to be out rather than in!

Good luck and look forward to the announcement .

the really wont want to bring your baby out any earlier if possible, unless there is a serious risk to you or your baby's health.

cananyonehelp · 16/07/2006 10:16

ok thanks sc ,will wait and see what they say, was just really hoping they would ! is 39 weeks the routine time for a scheduled c-section to be done have heard some do it at 38 weeks ???? but i maybe wrong!

They might do it if there's a medical reason to. Anything from 38 weeks onwards is classified as term I think (my DS arrived at 38 weeks of his own accord, had APGAR scores of 9 and 10 and no problems whatsoever). But if it's an elective c-section, they might be reluctant - DS was clearly ready to come out, but many babies aren't. Definitely talk to them next week. Good luck.

thanks clairemow, will do ,roll on next week !

I am going to see my consultant for a very similar reason on Tues, i will be having my section booked on tues for 39 weeks but i am going to ask about it maybe being the week before because of really bad SPD and have been leaking wee (sorry tmi!)i had a 3rd degree tear last time, so have definate weakness below.

I will let you know what they say.

cananyonehelp · 16/07/2006 12:54

thanks for your post pucca nice to know someone else is in a similar position ,would be great to know what they say , do you know how your going to ask him , cant seem to find the right thing to say that sounds good enough if you know what i mean its more than back ache its sciatica but he might not see that as a prob for another week might just tell me to hold on!!

they usually like to wait till 39 weeks for an elective c-section, unless there are medical reasons to do it earlier.

chipkid · 16/07/2006 13:30

when I had my elective I was very anxious that the date given was 39 weeks and 5 days. As that was the times that ds arrived naturally I was woried that we were cutting it fine!

discussed a section at 38 weeks and 5 days, Consultant would have agreed to this but did say that there would be a very small risk that the lungs would be underdeveloped resulting in breathing problems!

I did not want to take any risks so I waited. However it was a very small risk and so your Consultant may be happy to bring yours forward,

good luck

It reduces swelling and bruising, aids healing, all round top stuff (and you can BF on it). Start taking it before the CS, buy it from boots, about £6 a packet IIRC.

cananyonehelp · 17/07/2006 19:55

thanks will def go and get some , sorry one more question also been told you can get different strenghts is this true if so what one is recommended? thanks again !!

I think healthfood stores sell stronger stuff than boots. Try CATing MNer Pupuce. She knows where to get it (online, I think?)

mrsdarcy · 17/07/2006 20:33

I was induced at 38 weeks for rather vague reasons: concerns about the baby as she had a brain abnormality; and I was in a state (I thihk that was the main reason). Although I have read on other threads that most consultants much prefer to wait till 39 weeks so the baby's lungs are more mature.

pucca · 19/07/2006 10:15

Cananyonehelp...Well i went to see consultant yesterday and they have booked me in at 38+5 for my section but i didn't really have to go into detail anyway about me wanting it earlier they sort of decided themselves as the baby measuring big, i did query it slightly and was told they like to do sections as close to 39 weeks as possible, so not really sure how you will get on tbh, sorry i can't be more help.

I can help with the ARNICA though, i had bought some arnica 30 from boots a few weeks ago then a very kind MN'er sent me some so i have a sealed vial of arnica 30 you are very welcome to have. Email me on [email protected] and i will post to you.

Xx

cananyonehelp · 19/07/2006 12:08

hi just got back from seeing consultant he said i could have it at 38 weeks but there is more of a risk of baby ending up in special care , so i decided to grin and bear it for 1 more week !! will e-mail you now about arnica !

OP posts:
pucca · 19/07/2006 14:35

Cananyonehelp...Have emailed you back just now, will post arnica out tomorrow for you

I had come to the exact same conclusion as you actually, i decided i wouldn't push for the section any earlier as 1 week extra/earlier is no biggie.

Good luck with your section.X

cananyonehelp · 19/07/2006 14:52

just e-mailed you back !thanks so much its very kind of you , good luck for your section too!!!!
