Is it possible to have a C Section and have a settled baby?

I had an emergency CS with my daughter after induction and am now 40+2 wks pregnant with my second child. Just been for a sweep and my cervix is still completely tucked away so having to face the option of another CS.

I desperately wanted a VBAC for many reasons but one is that my first child was a very unsettled baby - cried constantly, wouldn't sleep at all unless in someone's arms (day or night) and struggled to feed for weeks. It was exhausting - and I've always blamed my CS for a lot of these problems. I know it perhaps had nothing to do with it so I'd really love to hear from anyone who had a CS and had a settled baby that fed and slept and was generally contented.

Thanks ladies. Starlight, advice much appreciated, luckily I seem to have a fairly patient and empathetic Consultant so I have some time to play with. Nooka it's nice to know I'm not the only one out there with a useless uterus Grin, I felt like such a failure last time but you're right, the most important part is growing a healthy baby and you've def helped me see the positives of whatever birthing outcome.

Lucy my second born by ELC has been far more contented and calm, fed BF straight away all far easier than V birth.

I had 3 days of labour and was on a hardcore drip for ages - maybe 8 hours then I had an EMCS as the baby was in distress. Not only was the breast feeding brilliant, but my baby was relaxed and happy. She slept in 4 hour blocks, and generally seemed content and not the product of a (horrendously long) birth as you may expect. Other friends have had a really tough time with their baby though, one being forceps and the other being CS. They actually both went to Cranial Osteopaths, which seemed to help a bit - but I do not have personal experience of that. No two babies are alike, so fingers crossed you'll have a better experience this time.

My doula (who had attended nearly 1000 births by that point) said that in her experience, section babies were calmer and more settled than those delivered vaginally. Not sure if she said that to make me feel better about needing an EMCS.

However my baby was (compared to my NCT friends' babies) one of the most settled of the bunch.
