Feel silly but are these my waters?

I was induced and had my waters broken with DS so feel a bit of a dunce with this...

I'm 35+2 and since yesterday lunchtime I've noticed a 'leaky' feeling that I'm sure isn't me weeing (I know what that feels like having a wrecked pelvic floor from last time!). It's not so much that a panty liner can't deal with it but is definitely not what I'm used to.

I'm wondering if it could be my hind waters but haven't had a show - is it possible that hind waters could get out if the mucous plug is still there?!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry but could it be sweat or just increased discharge? ConfusedGrin
Grim I know! Towards the end things get very 'wet' for want of a better explanation.
Have you sniffed it?!

Dear OP,

Yes it is possible that these are your waters. You need to contact your midwife or your local delivery suite (depending on your local arrangements) and seek their advice. Early rupture of membranes can lead to early labour so you need to be seen. Good luck!

queenofthepirates · 26/11/2013 21:15

Very possible, best get it checked out tomorrow morning.

thepobblewhohasnotoes · 26/11/2013 21:17

If you're able to, I'd call tonight for advice, just in case. Good luck :)

Whiteshoes · 26/11/2013 21:20

If it is your waters then you do need to be seen, as you sometimes need antibiotic cover and induction within 24 hours of the first leak.

My waters broke like this, but I also had a much earlier feeling of leaking which was apparently not. Although I understand it is quite easy to miss, and didn't do me any harm either way.

cupoftchai · 26/11/2013 21:20

Waters - as far as I know, I'm just remembering from my own experience which chimes with what others say- waters smell distinctive, not at all like pee, more like a sweeter very biological smell- been described as smelling like semen! (Sorry for the image ).

cupoftchai · 26/11/2013 21:21

Oh and my waters broke with no show or plug

sittinginthesun · 26/11/2013 21:22

If you can, get checked out tonight. My waters started to go at 36 plus 5 with ds2, and I was told they wanted me in ASAP. I was in labour and DS was born that night.

In my case, they sort of squelched every time I walked.

cupoftchai · 26/11/2013 21:23

In fact looking at timescales I would get seen, they were very keen to get me on antibiotics if dd wasn't born within 24 hours of waters breaking- and presumably at your stage that is a bit early!

cupoftchai · 26/11/2013 21:24

If it just pee, no sense in missing an opportunity for a bit of embarrassment, that's what this pregnancy lark is all about right :-) good luck

TeamSouthfields · 26/11/2013 21:28

go get checked out

nomoreminibreaks · 26/11/2013 21:33

Oh dear - I wanted you all to come on and say 'it's nothing! Don't worry about it'!

I'm under a one to one midwife so have sent her a text. I have had a few pains but nothing regular and not how I remember contractions, more sharp pains very low down, which I'd assumed were just stretching pains.

sittinginthesun · 26/11/2013 21:40

I had different pains with ds2 - I was told the sharp pain was the head bouncing up and down in my pelvis. That wasn't labour, it was a few days before...

thepobblewhohasnotoes · 26/11/2013 21:44

FWIW I didn't get a show with either DC.

nomoreminibreaks · 26/11/2013 21:57

Ok I'm on my way to hospital as she said call the labour ward and they've asked me to go in. Still leaking!

Have a feeling I'm going to feel like a total idiot when they tell me I'm just pissing myself Confused

good luck, your mumsnet cheerleaders are at the ready. and at least the relief of not being in labour yet will help you cope with the embarrassment! oh the glamour :)

thepobblewhohasnotoes · 26/11/2013 22:06

I expect it'll all be fine, but best to check, you're doing the right thing. Let us know how you get on, if you can :)

GeorgieWilson · 26/11/2013 22:08

My waters went solely and trickly too and I didn't have a show. Continued trickling for a day and a half until I was finally induced.

sittinginthesun · 26/11/2013 22:13

good decision! Better to know for sure. good luck.

nomoreminibreaks · 27/11/2013 00:11

Been hooked up to the monitor and had various tests done. Then a really young, gorgeous male doctor had to examine me Confused and told me it was just discharge ConfusedConfused

That's great news! My friend's waters went without her knowing and her baby was without amniotic fluid for several days. They induced when they realised. He had inhaled the merconium (sp?) and was very poorly, he very nearly didn't make it. He didn't come home from the hospital for weeks.

I didn't want to freak you out by saying that before, but just to reassure you, you absolutely did the right thing to get checked out, and the consequences of losing your waters could be very serious indeed.

Possibly feeling a bit silly for worrying about having discharge is the best outcome, I'm really pleased for you :)

nomoreminibreaks · 27/11/2013 07:54

Thanks popple - and thanks everyone else!

I know it was the best thing to do and the best outcome really but it was just so cringeworthy having a discussion about my copious discharge with the midwife, my DH and the hot doctor Blush

Grin motherhood is just so glamourous isn't it?

cupoftchai · 27/11/2013 19:36

That is going to make a great story to tell - if u can ever bear to that is! Glad all is well with mini-minibreaks

nomoreminibreaks · 27/11/2013 20:09

I think it'll be a while before I can tell the story in real life - that's why MN is so great! DH keeps asking me how my 'discharge' (said in a Miranda-style way) is, just to embarrass me.

While on the subject, two other things really made me laugh:

When hot doctor came in and introduced himself to me and DH, he asked DH if his moustache was for movember (which it is thank god), DH asked if hot doctor's beard was for it and his reply was that he'd considered doing it but decided that a moustache seemed somewhat inappropriate for a gynaecologist. For some reason this reminded me of a rude joke and I giggled all the way through the examination Smile

Also, I was complaining to the midwife that I hadn't shaved my legs and she said 'oh don't worry, he's not going to be looking at your legs!' To which I said something like 'yeah - that's even worse!!'
