This is my second baby, but I am new to the area, Chase Farm would be closer, but a couple of friends were not terribly impressed....heard good things about Barnet hospital, but being a second baby, I'm not too happy about the idea of being in the car for more than half an hour when in labour..

has anyone experience of both, or do you know anything more??

many thanks in advance

webmum, congratulations on your pregnancy! I had my last 2 at North Mid, even though I am closer to CFH, and friends have had their babies at both Barnet and Chase farm. As this is your 2nd baby, you will be more forceful, with the midwivies, you will know what you want, I would go with Chase Farm, if you don't like the hospital, then transfer yourself to Barnet. You now carry all your notes with you, so I don't think there should be much of a problem. BTW we are in Enfield too.

thanks survicor, I still havent been to the GP yet, but I'll see how it goes, I'll probably stick with chase farnm for the moment.

Just of curiosity can I ask you why did u have yours at Middlesex? That's actually even closer to me (I'm in Winchmore hill), but a friend advised me against that one. People at my surgery tend to go to Chasefarm.

The thing is, even though it's baby2 I feel a bit nervous because I don't know the midwives, the labour ward,e tc, it's a bit like the first time...

thanks!!

Had 2 at Chase Farm, total hell hole but I think they're all the same. Booked a private room that was v. nice. Actually meant I could sleep and they served real food instead of manky corned beef sandwiches.

Hopefully things have changed since my last visit 5 years ago. But Hey, I survived!

I also went to Chase farm, stayed in a private room at the end of the Hertford ward and was forgotten about. I had a terrible time there , but mainly on the Hertfrod ward were Midwives are stretched to the limit.

I must say though the midwives on the labour ward were very good and caring , unlike 2 floors up!!

The best unit is supposed to be North Mid. barnet is only 15mins away.

Have you gone on any visits anywere ??

Roughly where are you? CFH is only 10mins away from me but I had my first at Barnet and it was mixture of good and awful - completely dependent on the midwives. However I had my second at Welwyn Garden City and honestly it was wonderful. Everyone was fantastic.

webmum the only reason I chose NMH, was that there is a bus from mine that runs straight through the hospital, and hubby could not drive, so him and the boys could visit me without any hasle.

I know people who have had good and bad experiences at both barnet and Chase farm. Can i suggest that you make appointments to visit both and see how comfortable you feel and maybe make a choice from their. My SIL had her DD almost 2 years ago in a private room at CF and had a good experience good enough to be going back this Sept.

Thank you all very much for the advice, I suppose it's juat a question of luck, I know someone who travelled miles to go to a hospital that was supposed to be the ebst in London, and then ended up having labour on a busy day and being completely neglected by the m/vs!!

I'll try and visit both, and then see what I feel about them!

Many thanks!!

I had both my children at Chase Farm. Had complications - Pre eclampsia spent a month in hospital the first time and became part of the furniture really got a good in sight to the hospital. They were really good I was under consultant Marcos in Essex Ward.
Second time was not so good due to Staff shortages many of the midwives I got to know had left. They were good but over worked and could not give the care as well as they should. Overall first time brillant, second time not as good. Larsxx
