ELCS today - can't sleep!

So I'm having an elective section today! DC2 - DC1 was a crash section under GA after hours and hours of labour which was all rather terrifying - I'm really hoping this one will be a better experience. Positioning and other factors meant CS better option than VBAC.

Infuriatingly I have a really bad cold, as does my DD. No sleep tonight as DD has been crying and unhappy. Typical!

Anyway, wish me luck for today! Pretty nervous now.

Try and get a bit of sleep

Your elcs will be a doddle in comparison to your first birth. I've had two and they were lovely experiences.

Good luck!

Thanks! Got a bit more sleep after I posted. Looking forward to it now, lots of people have said it's a very peaceful experience so keeping fingers crossed it's the same for me.

Thank you! Beautiful boy born yesterday afternoon in very peaceful and calm CS. Screen lowered at point of delivery and he was put straight onto me for skin to skin for whole time I was being stitched- so perfect. Very happy indeed!

To be honest the things that we're really making me nervous were the canula being put in my hand and the spinal going in as in not brilliant with needles. But both, while not exactly pleasant, were fine. The atmosphere in theatre was so relaxed it was impossible to be nervous really. Good luck!

Ps - take some trapped wind stuff in your bag to hospital eg windeze or rennie deflatine. The CS can cause really bad trapped wind, I've had it excruciatingly bad but all I have is mint teabags and they're just not cutting the mustard!

I was in for two days, went in at 11am on Thursday and left at midday today (Saturday). I've got almost no bump left actually but then it wasn't huge to begin with.

Try not to be nervous but try and enjoy it. It really was one of the best experiences I've ever had!

Congratulations!!!

Had mine one week ago and can hardly believe how easy and calm it was. Today I went for a walk, had some lunch.... So much easier than my VB. I was terrified before going into theatre but it was a breeze and unlike first time around I was fully aware and focused so seeing dd born was something I'll never forget.

Anyway didn't want to hijack thread, but i can't believe how quick my recovery has been and how psychologically well I am this time around.

Ps yes swelling was quite bad but only for a couple of days. I'm day 8 and all gone now.

Katiejon · 17/11/2013 05:30

Have also just had elcs.
Much better than 5 day failed induction with dd1.
The drs were so relaxed, I could join in with their conversation!

Yes panda I was quite tearful, it's a big deal and because it's planned you have it all in your head. Best thing you can do though is try to get a decent nights sleep before. I booked a massage the evening before mine. I did get some sleep and it made a world of difference.

Good luck panda! One of the worst things for me was not being able to eat until afterwards, was absolutely starving! The toast they gave me in recovery afterwards was probably the best toast I've ever eaten...

Here's a tip - the anaesthetist will tell you that you might feel sick or faint staple point - it's the spinal that causes it because it dilates your blood vessels and therefore lowers BP. Tell the anaesthetist as SOON as it happens, if it does, as he/she can sort it out really quickly with something in your drip. I waited a bit thinking it would pass but felt really horrible for about three or four mins. As soon as I told him and he put the stuff in the drip I felt better within about 30 seconds so don't suffer in silence!

Update us when you can!

Massive congratulations! It is very true that an elcs can be a marvellous, positive birth experience, especially when compared to a crash cs under a general. Hope all is going well for you and your dd and her baby brother Flowers.
