38 week pg Thursday with 2nd baby. Our 1st was 10 days overdue and ended up a whopping 10lb 4oz. The waiting drove me mad and birthing such a biggun took it's toll....this time I'm taking control so hit me with your suggestions on how to get this baby to make it's move Grin

Keep on the move yourself! I cleaned the toilets and traipsed up and down the stairs with numerous piles of washing just before going into labour. I think that being active really helps get things going. Good luck!

Ooh watching with interest. I am 38+4 and also keen to get things on the move as big babies run in our families (both sides!)

So far have been eating curry and keeping (very) busy but no signs of anything! The one thing I keep being told is sex - but DH is being a little reluctant.... Pah!

Good luck storm - hopefully we can find something that helps!

I'm keeping very active....you can't rest quite as much when there's a toddler in the mix too! I just have this sinking feeling that I'm in for the long haul!Sad can I request a sweep at my mw appointment on monday? I'll be 38+4.

I am 38+6 and also desperate for baby to arrive. Have been walking, bouncing on the ball and even a few aqua aerobics classes.
even started to drink the rasberry tea leaf now.....

Good luck

yep its got to be sex.
sperm contains a chemical that softens the cervix and orgasms cause the womb to contract.

TwoTearsInABucket · 11/11/2013 12:19

does bouncing on an exercise ball actually help then? I feel faintly ridiculous doing it.

39 weeks today and would like not to be overdue...

StormBird · 11/11/2013 13:14

I don't want to have sex ever again.....my libido has taken a serious nose dive. my poor dp!!!!!Shock Sad

i had a sweep at 39+4 and then had the hottest indian curry in my local takeaway which made me get really strong pains which turned into labour he was born at 40+2 and is 1 week old today gl ladies the bouncing on the ball helps baby into the cervix my baby was very low at my sweep :)

I had lots of sex and ran up and down the stairs of my house 10 x a day. My waters broke after 2 days of doing that. It ended up being a slow and long labour though as I definitely triggered the waters breaking but not labour itself..Anyway good luck !

I've heard that evening primrose oil can help to soften the cervix but it's not evidence based. I know it's not going too do any harm though so I've already started taking and inserting at night (sorry if tmi)
there's always acupuncture or reflexology as well if you can afford it though I think most practitioners wouldn't do anything until after your due date.
good luck.

LoveLaughingLots · 13/11/2013 10:43

I'm 38+3 with my first. I'm not necessarily interested in bringing on labour right now but I do want to avoid any intervention, so sweeps/induction are

I had reflexology yesterday which was a "Priming for labour" session, my practitioner will do it from 37 weeks. Works best if you've had reflexology before during the pregnancy. Since yesterday I've been having period-type pans and lots of Braxton Hicks. Need to keep moving though as since I finished work last week I've done nothing but sit on the sofa. So will start swimming/walking soon!

I've heard the following works:
Spicy food
Lots of walking/staying active
Sex
Reflexology
Acupuncture
Visualisation/Hypnotherapy

For he last two have a look on YouTube for acupuncture point for labour induction, reflexologist was working them yesterday, they felt very tender so hopefully that means they work!

Good luck!
