Water birth, 3rd stage and other questions

I would like to have a water birth if possible. But I'm wondering about a few things...

Do you have to get out of the pool for them to examine you/check your progress?
I want the cord clamped and cut after it completely stops pulsating - how long does it take?
If it takes a while, do I have to have physiological third stage, or can I ask for injection? I assume I'd need to get out of the pool for them to do it?
If the cord is still pulsating, do I have to stay in the pool, or can I get out with cord still connecting me and baby?

Thanks :)

I had my 3rd in the pool.
I got in the water at about 6/7cm. Wasn't examined at all after that as it was very obvious from my behaviour when I'd reached transition. Mind you, I only had to push 3 times to get baby out. Possibly if this stage had lasted longer, I might have needed ah exam but I doubt the MW would have made me get out.
They did get baby's heartbeat through an underwater Doppler no problem.
I got out of pool to deliver placenta. I think that's standard.
Then they refilled pool with fresh, warm water & me and scrunchy new DS got back in for loads of cuddles.

It was an AMAZING experience. I hope it works out for you.

You can be examined while still in the pool. My midwife used a Doppler every 15 minutes to listen to the heartbeat and did my blood pressure and pulse, all while I was in the pool.

After 4 hours they did an internal exam while I was in the pool as well. I had to position myself to make this work but I was happy to do it if it meant I could stay in the pool.

I delivered to baby in the pool and then, still attached by umbilical cord, got out. It's my hospital trust's policy to deliver the placenta outside the pool. Tbh there is lots of blood after the birth and I wouldn't have wanted to have that while I was in the pool. Delayed cord cutting is normal with water births in my area, as is physiological third stage. I've heard others say they had the injection I while still in the pool. They give you one hour to deliver the placenta naturally and after that I was given the injection. I have no idea when the umbilical cord stopped pulsating for me but it was cut at almost the one hour mark, to allow them to deliver the placenta.

I had a HWB and the last VE I had was at 6am before getting in the pool and dc2 was born at 9am. Most mw's will be able to tell whether you're progressing from your behaviour etc, plus I had that line between my bum cheeks that appears when you are fully.

I had the injection to deliver the placenta as I was stepping out of the pool and it came out whilst lying in my bay window! I was then promptly set up on.the sofa with tea, decent biscuits and the 5 mw's (shift changeover and a student!) Cleared up with my DH. Brilliant experience.
