induction after EPO?

ive been on evening primrose oil orally and vaginally since 36 weeks. tomorrow is my due date and im being induced saturday cos of low movements.

ive had regular painful contractions for 3 nights now, with little effect on my cervix dilation wise... although its soft. what im wondering is, did taking the EPO make any difference to the difficulty of labour/induction? i had a sweep last night and it didnt do much Sad

i had 3 difficult inductions before (minus epo) and im terrified... x

Bless, if it's any consolation my 4th induction was fantastic. First time I didn't demand an epidural. After I delivered I said "was that it, I'd do that again tomorrow".

What's happened with your previous inductions that are making you terrified?

long stories short..

dc1 was induced 10 days overdue, everything ok til transition, then it went wrong. he pooed out his meconium and his heartbeat dropped... then so did mine... all i remember is them injecting stuff in me to get my bp back up, being cut for forceps n everything started going black...
just about gave birth in time, i was told they thought theyd lose me and ds. i got ptsd afterwards.

dc2- induced a week early when his growth slowed. induction was hardly working. ended up on a drip which was incredibly painful, docs wouldnt let me labour at my pace- had to follow their protocols. he got stuck in my birth canal and born by ventouse with a tear. he was easiest though i got severe pnd afterwards. it took years to bond with him.

dc3- induced on due date for no movements, sleepy heart trace, took 3 days to get into labour. first labour as a single mum as dp had died at 18 weeks. was ok til transition then dd started getting distressed and pooed meconium... pushed like a trooper for 2hrs til her head got stuck in my birth canal slightly sideways... cue rush to theatre, cut for ventouse which failed. had to have her head shifted and delivered by forceps and had a further tear up the bum...

all 3 labours were days long.

i think by far her birth was the most painful. and thats why im as scared, cos even 4 1/2 years later the pain of her head stuck while my body is relentlessly pushing her down by itself is still fresh in my mind. its like every pelvic bone breaking at the same time during each contraction.

I'm really surprised you're not asking for a planned c-section. Perhaps your pelvis is an unusual shape for them all to get stuck at the last minute?

To be pushing for 2 hours with your 3rd baby doesn't sound "typical" to me.

Inductions #1 & #3 were days to get me into labour but the stage 2 deliveries for 2, 3 & 4 were very quick and I had BIG babies and I am tiny with dinky hips?

Have you got anything like a birth reflections service where they talk you through your previous labours, have you seen a consultant, would you like a c-section?

honey86 · 31/10/2013 23:38

im under a consultant yes, but havent seen her since booking... my plan is to see how i go and if things show signs of going abit wrong, to request section.. as hes an average estimated weight and its no.4, they get funny about elcs.

the midwife who swept me said my cervix was soft, whereas with the previous 3, it was firm, really thick n tightly shut... so i guess im hoping thatll make a difference x

I would be concerned because once baby is so far down the canal they can't perform a c-sec anyway?

Would you prefer a c-sec or not really?

sorry for the late reply....
it happened again. but this time 50x faster. i went from 4cm to birth in 1hr 17 mins... but was rushed to theatre for emergency forceps as he got stuck- in the same way as the others.
i gave it a go, in the hope that it would go better this time. it did, but ended the same way. i just could not budge him no matter how hard i pushed.
me n the midwives ive discussed it with have admitted defeat now and agreed that if- and a big if- i was to have another in the future, a section is to be considered. it seems like the very bottom outlet of my pelvis is only just too narrow to push out baby without help.

dispite that, i have a healthy thriving newborn, with a modest weight of 7lb 10 1/2 xx

Poor you I really wish I hadn't been correct about you having a funny shaped pelvis.

Enjoy your lovely snuggly newborn, a huge Congratulations x
