Low lying anterior placenta

Just wondering whether anyone can help to put my mind at rest!
Went for my 20 week scan a few days ago and the sonographer confirmed that my placenta is anterior and is lying close to the internal os. She's booked me in for another scan at 34 weeks at which point they will know better whether this impact on the baby's delivery.
After a lovely birth last year, I was all set for a home birth - but after frightening myself something stupid by googling my scan report, I guess this will probably be out of the question. Has anyone else been in the same situation? The sonographer confirmed that headstands each day wouldn't help!!

you'll just have to wait till hte scan. a lot of times, the placenta will move up as the uterus expands.

With ds1, my placenta moved by 32 weeks and was no problem at all

I think it almost always moves up. You can probably still have your home birth. The uterus does most of it's stretching at the bottom in the last trimester so the placent moves up above the exit.

This happened to me too so I was rescanned at 36 weeks and it was well out of the way. I wanted an elective section anyway so it wasn't much concern for me if it hadn't moved.

Thank you for your responses....I feel a lot calmer now!

Shivs, mine was low-lying and anterior at 20 weeks - by 30 weeks it had moved up fine (though still anterior). The only affect it had was it sometimes made it slightly more difficult to find the heartbeat.

Don't google any more hun - just ask us instead

Same here with DD1 - moved in time by my late scan. All that worry and considering options for nothing!
Don?t worry about it too much, often moves up and even if it doesn?t, the fact that they are aware of it means that they will help you achieve the safest birth possible, which is what all of us want ultimately.

mine was low and stayed low! don't worry though, i had a csection at 38 weeks and all was ok

"Lying close to" is good. As your womb grows bigger, the placenta stays in the same place but the top bit grows and the bottom bit doesn't grow much, so the placenta ends up a lot further away from the os. [put a pen mark near the neck of a balloon and then blow it up!].

Mine was over the os at 20 weeks (attached to the front, over the os, up the back). It didn't move.

1 in 5 placentas are "low-lying" at 20 weeks, and only 1 in 20 by 32 weeks. So, 80%+ chance that yours will move.

Really don't google too much though. I scared myself silly that way... and the baby in question is currently lying in his cot shouting "quack quack" (at ten to ten at night).

Thanks everyone - why did I go to google in the first place? Mumsnet should ALWAYS be my first port of call!!
