40+3 and wondering if my planned home water birth may go out the window?!

This is my second, ds born at 38 +4 (now realising how bloody easy that was!) I'm planning a water birth at home, but wondered what the general feedback was on going over and having a sweep etc? My dates initially worked out as 15th oct (so I would be 10 days over now) but will go on scan dates I guess. Very desperate for this labour to start and remind me how painful but rewarding it is!

My 1st DS was at 37+6 . So was convinced my second would come earlier than that. I also planned to have a home birth, and did at 42+1. So a late arrival. If you are health and so is baby home birth, should still be an option! I had four sweeps before he made an appearance.

Good luck.

Oh you don't know how pleased I am to hear that it is possible, I'm feeling quite emotional about it all now, as I had naively expected another early one! I'm not seeing my midwife until Tuesday and she said she will sweep then. I think it's just the general feeling from others around me that having a home birth is a bit silly and going over instantly means induction and hospital. Thanks!

I had two home births and highly recommend them. I would of had all of mine as home births but that can't always be a choice. Your midwife should give you more of an insight but as long as everything seems ok you should be fine! Overdue especially for the first two weeks is not a reason to be induce and forced into having to go into hospital.

hi op im booked for a homebirth but went overdue twice last time to 41 weeks anyways im 39 weeks now and the midwife told me i can still have a home birth up to 16 days overdue if daily monitoring at hospital is done basically can refuse induction for me ive already decided if i go to the 12 days i will accept induction in hospital ive a sweep booked for this tuesday so hope i wont but anyway good luck op and hope your baby comes soon Grin

Just hang on in there. Days 'overdue' seem to last forever, particularly when earlier babies have been early.

I have had 3 dcs, all at home. DC1 was 1 week early, DC2 was 2 weeks early. I fully expected DC3 to be 3 weeks early but was in fact 11 days past my due date! All was fine though, lovely home water birth.

It's shit isn't it when the due date comes and sails by. I kept reminding myself that due is 42 weeks. Over due is 42 +1.

Can you get some acupuncture? It can help. Can you go to a movie? Or get out and about somewhere so you are taking your mind off it? Hoping it starts soon.

Yippee!! We did it...baby born this morning at home in the water! Very quick and such a lovely lovely relief. I did have to go to hospital as I needed quite a few stitches but the amazing feeling of having him in our home and water was fantastic! Thanks for all the support.
