Anyone managed to get a social induction?

If so how?

I really don't feel safe with my local hospital. I am currently going to a hospital a little way away that involves a train journey to get there. Concerned about suddenly going into labour and having to get there on the train (it would take much longer by car/taxi - we are in London).

I would feel happy with some of the hospitals closer to me but they will not accept patients outside their area.

I was induced for medical reasons with dd1 and it was a really good experience.

I don't understand why the hospital advertise private c sections but not private inductions. I would be willing to pay to be induced but don't want a c section (unless it turns out I need it obviously!).

My husband's job means that he is not always contactable while at work - is obliged to have phone off- this is not an excuse as i have the same job! Could I use this as a reason to get a set date as obviously it's not reasonable to expect him to use up paternity leave before the baby is born?

Why don't you book into a private hospital?

It is my understanding that the NHS do not do inductions for social reasons,I could be wrong but I belive they only do them if there are health issues or the baby is late.

They also do not just do c sections because you fancy one, they still expect you to have a reason.

Just realised that sounded harsh,I didnt mean it to.whilst I was typing I was thinking it would be jolly good if they did

I had both my Ds at the Portland and my consultant would not have under any circumstances offer a social induction unless there was a favouable bishops score. It is just setting yourself up for disaster and if any consultant were to offer this if your body is not ready then I would run a mile.

Good point, I forgot that when I has oldest ds we had 3 appointments before they would because of unfavourable conditions.

Commencing induction doesn't really set the date, could be a while waiting around for a Delivery Suite bed.

Do you have time to negotiate access to one of your preferred local hospitals by contacting a local Supervisor of Midwives?

I do have time to change (22 nearly 23 weeks) but would prefer to stay with current hospital if at all possible. I will discuss it with them at next appointment though.

Anyone got any experience of taking a train in labour! I have noticed others on MN saying they have 30 minute journey to hospital so perhaps it's not that impossible.

Can you tell me what a bishops score is?

With dd1 I was induced due to her potential health problems, and started contractions the moment the pessary went near me, which maybe suggests I was going to be early anyway.
