Induction - labour ward or MLU?

I'm a week overdue now and starting to think that induction might be a possibility.

If I end up needing to be induced just for overdue reasons does anyone know if this can happen in the birthing centre opposed to the labour ward?

I really wanted a water birth in the birthing centre, just wondering if I need to start shifting my expectations.

Thanks for any help

No-one needs to be induced just for overdue reasons.

There is very little medical evidence this is necessary.

I think it depends on the trust. At ours, you aren't allowed to be induced in the MLU.

Just such a deeply personal decision. I was induced, kind of of my own will, this was essentially because I wanted to control my birth, then pain control and the environment.

Have you tried natural induction?

MumOfTheMoos · 20/10/2013 22:02

No, when I was induced I had to go to the labour ward and lost my chance to go to the super duper birthing session.

I've tried a few things, spicy food, long walks etc. not had a sweep yet, am a bit sceptical of these things really and had initially been ok with being late, but I am starting to get a bit tetchy now :-)

I had thought that if asked to go for an induction I would say no, but as time ticks on I can see me changing my mind if I could still have the birth I had planned.

In the hospital where I gave birth I was admitted to the induction ward, partners were allowed to stay. I was given two lots of gel there and moved to a room on the labour/delivery ward when I was about 3cm, and my waters were broken and drip started.

I needed a lot of monitoring and I don't think there would have been any chance of trying for a water birth under the circumstances, but then I didn't ask so I'm not entirely sure.

I guess you have another week before they try to book you in for induction? I hope that you go into labour naturally within the next few days (and there's every chance that you will). Good luck x
